Re: Kennedy Question Russ and Other Expert on A/H's
Breen estimated 55-60 obverse dies were used to mint the AH coins. It's a good question though. Since this was the first obverse die design, one would expect the first 50 coins from each die to exhibit some cameo, and the first 20 to be dcam. Assuming these early strikes were matched with new reverse dies (doubtful), it… -
Re: If people slab their 20th Anniversary SAE's. How long before...
killjoy! Probably right away. Russ always seems to preach a gentle rinse in acetone before sending PROOFs in to avoid milkspots. I wonder if that works on ASEs? I'm wondering how nice that reverse PROOF is going to look? Also, since it's a completely different process from regular PROOFs, the dies' must be brand new, I… -
Re: 2006 SAE's got problems
"Just slab 'em and in a year or two those ugly bag marks will be all covered up by beautiful milk spots." "HUGE money for the MS70s!!!" Unless you are for some reason in love with this issue, I would find some other place to put my money. Milkspots can not be predicted and a significant percent of mine have them (20%). So,… -
Re: Any ideas on the grade on this one???

Ken, I can't tell how much noise there is in front of the ear, but I see a tick in the sideburn. There is the reeding mark at 2:00, and the spot at 8:00 on the obverse, and what looks like a milk spot at 8:00 on the reverse. The strike looks a little soft around the tail and the banner. There appear to be tiny abrasions by… -
How many coins have you purchased slabbed, only to have them "turn" in the holder later?
Part of my collecting interest is in cameo proof franklins. I have around 30 or so slabbed cameo franklins right now, and about 4 of them in newer pcgs holders have subsequently (6-12 months later) developed really unattractive milkspots. I haven't had this happen with any other holder, so my guess is that a lot of folks… -

The word I dislike the most in our Hobby has changed over the years.

I guess it's really the word that is used at this site that I'm referring to, the one that has changed. Over the years it has been widget, dreck, overpriced, underpriced, bifurcate(and its many derivatives), specie, milkspot, OT, some(and its derivatives) and several others which escape me now. You probably know what I'm… -
Re: Ebay feedback question
Like I said, I am content with the coin.. and don't feel like I am stuck with a dog, but I am not thrilled with it. Again, guess what I am asking is at what point a 4 is called for? The fact the coin has milkspots disapoints me, but the fact that I can only see them in 1 of 9 rooms we have leads me to believe that the… -
Re: 1964 Kennedy OBW Rolls
Those aren't milkspots. You have the effects of a longterm storage in a somewhat corrosive environment. Some of the corrosion resulted in color, some of the corrosion resulted in spotted areas. Acetone might affect the toning, and it's too late to remove the spotting because the corrosion has already occured. Acetone might… -
