Re: PayPal issue - 6/11 update - resolution: SUCCESSFUL!
<< <i>That, my friend, is one of *MY*questions. If there was something wrong with the coin, I would have replaced it or refunded his money. By the same token, it was slabbed as a PF70, so I can't begin to imagine what the problem is. In answer to your question, my guess is this: because there was nothing wrong with the… -
Re: Does this coin look okay or AT?
Knowing that pics can be deceptive for things like this, even when not done deceptively on purpose, I would lean towards NT. I don't see anything AT like, and the breaks in toning are more like what I would expect from some NT with similar to "milkspot toning" (like on SAEs). Haven't seen that on AT really. Now, that all… -
Re: How can you tell if a 2006-w MS-69 ASE FS has been...
you can check the cert number. The higher the number, the more likely it was submitted recently. That would be my guess. That is what I looked for when I purchased 10 of them off eBay when PCGS announced they would grade 70's. The good and bad thing was they all had milkspots on them. I sent them into PCGS and they gave me… -
Re: Time the wave! 95W Price crest!
It is very unusual to see a 10 year old coin that is a modern stopper. More and more people are drawn into the SAE collecting mode as the series gets longer and if you want a complete set...you just have to have the '95 W. With the milk spot problem though, I wouldn't have one. The one's other than the '95W that I have are… -
Re: NCS Conservation of the Month
<< <i>Still very curious about NCS. Now if this were submitted to PCGS today would they reject it? There must be some evidence of the cleaning, er conservation. >> the difference is, NCS will conserve it with your knowlege. There have been many a forum member post here that they returned coins back to PCGS for spotting… -
Re: What's happening with the 25th anniversary sets? Is this a good deal or should I wait for the price
I'm only holding one pcgs 70 25th Anny set for possible future gain. Potential milkspotting and the speculative nature of what the future holds for these sets led me to sell four 69 sets and two 70 sets a month ago. I'd rather turn the inventory now and minimize my risk, get the cash and move on to other items to flip.… -
Re: can you remove milk spots on proof coins

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but it seems some people are suggesting acetone will remove the milk spots from ASEs, when in fact I believe it does not, it just protects them pre-spotting. I spent all night with several glass jars and a milk spotted eagle, with chemicals I think it would be illegal for me to leave my… -
Re: What's your opinion of the American Silver Eagle Series as a collectable series?

I like Silver Eagles but tend to stay away from the special labels and un-mintmarked ASEs. I wish the Mint would just use W on bullion ASEs like the way mintmarks were intended, but it seems like mintmarks are used to sell coins (W for proofs), not show which mint created the coins (West Point bullion coins). Milkspots is… -
Re: Silver, Gold, Platinum Eagles, Buffalo Issues, Mints Intentions, Historical and current sales data f
<< <i>Still, where are the all the friggin' coins??? For someone wanting to build a collection, it's remarkably hard to find material. >> Coin speculators, low mintage, plat speculators, and Pt is 1/2 of what it was 10 months ago. Even so, I still don't believe that we've seen anything like what's to come. When the general… -
Re: 20th Anniversary 2006 W Silver Eagle
This looks like a dealer to stay away from - good advice by many above. While milkspotting is a major issue on ASE's, they do not all spot. And despite countless discussions and analysis here on the boards, no definitive answer as to root cause or contributing factors have been identified. I have many, many ASE's and have…
