Re: Grandfather's Basement Story
<< <i>Once again, a rip-off artist who can't spell... "Do (instead of Due) to other financial obligations I must sell". >> you could be right...could also be a clever scammer "pretending" to be dumb in order to better fool the fish. Wouldn't surprise me if this seller has done this numerous times before with other ebay… -
Re: X-mas rack packs are back
There's also a big difference between the "original" holiday racks that were made years ago and most of what you see on ebay today. Most of the ones I've seen up for sale over the last couple of years were just made very recently by scammers and are not in the same category as the holiday racks referenced by fkw or Steve… -
Re: Frivelous second chance offers via Ebay......how big is this problem?
<< <i>Not a problem AT ALL if people had the common sense to just verify it in their "my eBay buying page" >> About 18 months ago one of my underbidders wired a grand to some scammer named John in the UK. You'd think he might have gotten a clue from the fact that my name is Russ and I'm in the US. Russ, NCNE -
Re: Yet another AT Doctor, this one even more blatant
Then too there is the consumer protection division of the U.S. Attorney's office who along with the postal authorities have been known to prosecute even less blatant examples of fraud and deception. Notice how many scammers refuse to use the U.S. mail (Fed Ex or UPS only) just to keep themselves away from the U.S. mail… -
Re: Just talking....
I wonder if doctoring of raw cards has increased with the TPG shutdowns. While not infallible, TPGs must catch a legs proportion of the scammers’ subs. Seems that this nefarious activity can proliferate easier with so little grading opportunities did strong raw cards that are not part of the premium segment of our hobby.… -
Re: no more crack & resub?
don't get me wrong, i love the idea that they are using previous scans against new submissions. but it can also prohibit and encourage certain activities too. scammers gonna scam. each card should be taken at its current merits. resubbing a card does not equate to it remaining in its previous subbed condition, for better… -
Re: Is David Lawrence Rare Coins a legit place to buy from?
I don't know of any coin dealers that have reviews on their website (I suppose APMEX has reviews of bullion products, but that's a little bit different). And let's be honest for a second. If reviews saying "these guys are great!" is all it took to prove a site is legit, wouldn't all the scammers just add their own fake… -
Re: Ebay tire kickers and non-refundable PP fee
We just recently had a posting from someone who got ripped off on BST and couldn't even file a complaint on PayPal because they used Friends & Family. The only reason BST seems safer is that there isn't the volume that exists on eBay for the 0.1% scammers to be visible. It might be a little safer if you stick to people you… -
Re: This eBay listing takes the cake
Listing has been pulled...There are some wild and crazy listings on the bay....When I used to frequent ebay, I saw some real funny ones...and, there are (or were) some strange categories as well...I remember back in the mid to late nineties, ebay was a fun venue, and there were good deals and not many scammers. Cheers,… -
Re: How many coins are likely lost through eBay and USPS every year.
I had an e-Bay buyer once claim that they never received their coin. USPS tracking showed it as delivered. E-Bay gave them a refund at no cost to me. I have no idea if the person was a scammer, the item was stolen from their mailbox, or something else. That was my only issue with hundreds of packages both sending and…
