Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Vern... The 1905-O was a 55 if my memory serves me correctly. ( Edit: which in this case, it didn't - I was somehow thinking of a Half Dollar, not a Quarter... I have Halves on the brain when the date 1905-O is mentioned. ) Sorry for the confusion. I should know better than to doubt you. I bid on two coins... The 1913-P… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Whoa, beautiful toning near the rim along with pleasing luster! Nicely done Eldo as always! This is what Stack's says: "Among the Finest Known Extraordinary Quality 1908-S Barber Half Dollar. MS-67 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. Beautiful champagne-pink and reddish-apricot toning is seen over frosty surfaces, with subtle hints of… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Sure have been a lot of nice coins posted since I last posted. I've been hard at work selling another of my collections. Wonder if Mike,Jeff,or Lenny ever got the bug since they live in Florida! SeaShells! Jeff, The tears came gushing out when I saw this yesterday morning! I would like to know how many submissions it took… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
DrPete. Thanks for the backstory on the '92-O micro-O half dollar! I like looking at the BCCS Annual Meeting picture Mike posted Aug. 12th, 2014 (pg.1 of this thread) from the Chicago ANA at Rosemont. He is in the Salmon-colored shirt on the left and I am next to Glenn Holsonbake on the right. We had a good conversation… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Yes, that's the one. You forgot a 1 on the end. Everytime I buy a half in a prongless holder I check to see if it came out of one the collections that were assembled and retired. That's the only one I have been able to trace so far. Mike, I bought it from David Kahn last year, so it must have traveled a little since you… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Dave: Thanks for the comments on my old 1905-S in PCGS 45 - which I just recently had CAC'd. A good friend is building a set of Halves for his Son, and he bought it when I mentioned that I had upgraded to an AU 53. This past week I noticed that I was remiss in locating some very common Dimes for my Everyman set. Last week,… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
@Eldorado9 Wow, how do you pick a favorite? from the '05-O luster and rim toning to the colorful 1911 Proof? Although it is a Half Dollar, the 1906-O as a Barber Quarter would have had a hidden, unexposed sense of scarcity to it. At this level of preservation, Eldo's 1906-O Half Dollar should not be seen as much different… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Jason, Get this... I was looking at the cost of Kaiser copy stands and couldn't bring myself to spending the $900. to $1000 or whatever for one of those. Being a foolhardy (at times) engineer by trade, I told myself I could make one at a much lower cost. With some upfront design, and using a little bit of what I had around… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Tim.... I see no fault in your logic about XF/AU Barber Quarters ... but: Give the Devil His Due: the # 1 toughest is { Three guesses } 01-S, 01-S and oh yeah, 01-S Number 2 is hands down the 96-S and of course, the Number 3 Bug-aboo is the 13-S. oddly, the Number 4 is the 09-O in XF { in AU its the Number 2 } Number 5 ...… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Long time no post, hi all. Getting the shop up and running with a 6 day work week has been shall i say time consuming! But it's working and succeeding, turns out along with the website reboot at the end of 2013 to have been good decisions. Darrell congratulations on your pluses. Your 58 set is up there among the finest. Dr…
