Re: Is this Silver Eagle AT or NT?
<< <i>The smaller bottom photos show the color and look much nicer. Looks like a finger print on the obverse so many will deduct for that. >> Yes, the smaller ones show the color more but look tweaked to do so. Also, the fingerprint, in such a focal place, will, rightfully so, get deducted a bit. Too, the splotchiness like… -
Re: Palladium spotting or discloration
@Vpd.... Welcome aboard....ASE's are famous for milkspots... and there is no known cure for them once they manifest. I was told years ago (by Russ) that I should dip them in acetone for a while as soon as I received them. I have done this and have no milk spots. Since no one seems to be able to identify the cause and there… -
Dust Particles in Airtites?
I put several of my coins mostly the proofs in airtites a while back and they seem ok now but im kinda worried any particles of dust or contaminants inside might damage the coins in the long run. I can kinda see little strands of dust and particles on the holder. Idk im worried it might cause milkspots or something. Am i… -
Re: It's time...10th anniversary platinum sets on sale!!!
<< <i> << <i>thanks, FLBuffaloHunter with a 30,000 limit, can they sell these into 2008 if not sold out in 2007 ? >> I think they would have to Mint them all in 2007 to be able to sell them after the end of the year. I think they will sell about 15,000- 20,000 the first week. >> Why so?? The 2008 ASE's have been minted for… -
Re: What would you do with this '21 Peace?

stman, if I remember past discussions on milkspots ( I think Russ had a nice Kennedy example), bathing the coin in acetone will not help the situation....so maybe I should keep the coin in the NGC holder and ask for a straight cross-over? Sean, I LOVE the luster on the reverse, the obverse has the subdued luster, like it… -
Re: Question on 1958 Franklin
Spotting, milkspots....can really hurt a grade, but pr64 is quite low.... I'll bet this one has hairlines which can be tough to see sometimes. You often have to hold the coin and rotate it at different angles to see the hairlines, also, some lighting can help to mask hairlines.. Try examining your coin in the above… -
Re: What will PCGS and NGC do with doctored coins already in their slabs???
The thing is that presumably such coins have not turned in the holder (like milkspotted ASEs) and were not considered a mistake at the time of encapsulation (like counterfeits). The best comparison may be wild toners that a TPG initially encapsulates but later stops, presumably because they are deemed to be AT or no longer… -
Re: With a TT win last night, a small set of mine finally makes the top spot!

<< <i>With 120 1943-D Steel Cents in MS68...I have to wonder who is going to make a MS68+ first...you know there has to be one out there. >> I have it on some authority (actually just a old time dealer) that PCGS isn't even grading 68's any more. Something about milkspots developing after grading, and the liability costs… -
Re: 1986 Proof 70 ASE to TPG or not to TPG?
If you plan on selling it and believe that it's a 70, then have it graded. Otherwise, it's really not necessary. If it's a 70 now, it will be a 70 later, unless you forget how to keep it stored in a cool, dry environment. I had 15 each of the Proof Silver Eagles from 1986 to 1994 and never had one spot, all the way through…
