It could be a 6 over 5. I have never seen an 1846 1/2 Real with such an overdate, but who knows. Conditions were still quite primitive at the Santiago mint in the 1840's. I have always liked these coins, but almost everyone I see, this one included, seem overgraded or worked on to me. This coin appears reasonably original with a decent circ look and minimal distractions. I believe this coin to be a McCloskey-B, head of 1834 block 8. At this point I don't know. The only thing I do know is: 1. I have seen 14 1974S proof coins after discovering the difference. 5 were type 1, 9 were type 2. 2.
