Not a dumb question at all. Like others before have said, this blue haze is quite common on Silver proof Ikes, especially 1972-S. I would guess that 40-60% of Silver Proof Ikes in the OGP have this to some extent. Sometimes it can be quite attractive; other times it tends to be a distraction and can even be a milky white… -

Is this common toning?
I was looking through my proof sets and came across a pretty nice toned 1970S lincoln. It had what looked to me to be nice toning, with a teal, blue, yellow, and orange rainbow almost circling the coin.
