Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Thank you all for the congrats on the #1 set. I'll continue to downplay it though. In the end, it's just numbers on plastic, and better sets have been assembled. Mike, congrats on your 09-S in 55. Milo and I had a brief discussion about it and we both liked it, and we had agreed to let him bid. Turns out he didn't, and you… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Mike,I wouldn't say it's hands down but the POP reports do support the Quarter. There are 31 quarters graded AU and 37 half's graded AU. If you knock out the 50's the Half wins by 1. Then ya have to wonder how many have been cracked and resubmitted. I would think the Half wins here. With all Don's resources and money to… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Hello all, I have been a collector since 1967, have assembled many series, and am working on a Barber Half set, VF-AU, along with a couple of MS halves. About 90% done, including about a dozen from Darrell. Been following this thread for some time, and it's always a good read. Vern's 07-S is gorgeous, the same can't be… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Here's an interesting selection of 1893 O Halves from my collection. > > First the Good; > > I really like this example. > > Next the Bad: > Example #1 of Bad:: An interesting Struck Thru coin, likely grease? This coin is graded AU 50 by PCGS. > Example #2 of Bad: Another example of struck thru with perhaps a Mumps thing… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Thanks, Mike. It's strange how it came about. Being a poor record keeper, I can't figure out where I picked up this coin. Then Vern sent over Doug's example and I was doing a side by side comparison when I saw the RPD and DDO. Since I'm interested in varieties, I sent it in for the attribution and I asked for a regrade as… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Paesan - CONGRATULATIONS on your #1 All-Time Everyman's Barber Quarter Collection!! A great collection for a great guy ... well done. Vern - Thank you for posting the pics of my 96-S in F12 OGH. This is one of my favorite coins of my set and really my favorite date/mintmark. I will gladly keep this one until I find the… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
<< <i>I know the grade, and with less than 30 in this grade and above at PCGS, this is a solid coin. (this would be a super key in the Morgan series) With that said, I think your lighting techniques point out the minor abrasions more than they would appear in hand. Congrats on the new, very tough coin! >> Justin, you are… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
Very nice '15 Half Vern- a 55? I "sort of" picked up an upgrade for my '93 S Quarter last week, an AU 53 with a centered mintmark: The reason I say "sort of" upgraded is my other '93 S has a far right mm: I'm treating both mm positions as part of the set even though our hosts don't recognize the two mm positions for '93 to… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
The 01-O Justin posted for me is the absolute example of PCGS not liking richly originally toned coins. I would take this coin for my collection over most of the coins I own in a 40 holder! Now I have to decide whether to blow away absolutely every coin I have in the set at the assigned grade or try to get it… -
Re: The Michael F. Hayes Barber Megathread
I kindda figured my pictures would cause the grades thought! Unfortunately my pic's of the S/S don't really show the luster beamimng through the sinfully original skin on this coin! I actually had to put my money where my mouth is to save this coin from the hammer! This coin could easily end up in a 62 holder! Now I have a…
