Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
I found 10 or 12 more nickels in the last 6 months just for searching nickels. Last week I found a Proof Nickel which was really strange. And I found silver and other nice finds. But every once want to come across something that just doesn't make sense. Last year I got some Farm Fresh rolls from the local bank and started… -

CoinscratchFever: I don't believe those ATB's were only offered in Mint Sets. I'm pretty sure all P & D ATB's circulated via rolls & bags as well. Given that these weren't found in customer-wrapped rolls, I'm thinking either: (a) someone collected those nice older date specimens & they were eventually turned back in &… -

(i have recently too) why you ask? am i cruel, despotic, jealous of other success.? what can be the reason?!!?!? well, getting skunked is usually a good time for some change (no pun intended) and i asked in this thread a little while back about people's list of stuff… -
Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
2 very simple techniques for better coin shots... 1. Hand hold the coin and figure out how close your phone will focus. Natural window daylight is best, not direct sunlight. Daylight sets a much higher shutter speed compared to even most bright room lights, fast shutter speed means sharper images. Figure out a comfortable… -
Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
A true story... I haven't been in a bank lobby in over 9 months. I haven't searched circulated rolls from a local bank in about 20 years. True. I much prefer my vintage and mint rolls. I went to my ATM at a large branch and noticed the lobby was open and empty. Only 1 teller out of 20 was working and she's known me for… -
Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
tilting is for sure the easiest. (you can tilt the coin, lights or camera though) there are actually tilted lenses out there to match the angle of the coin but that is really the long and hard (unnecessary imo) road. the answer with imaging coins is 1 of 3 or a combination thereof. move the light(s), move the camera, move… -
Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
it depends on how much you do it. if you are tinkering, that probably works but unless standing serves a direct purpose (some people that sit for extended periods have gone to standing a lot for health reasons) i would think sitting would be easier on the back and neck (if over 40 especially). also, unless you are in love… -
Re: Coin Roll & Mint Set Hunting.
@Fairfaxthunder Thank you for joining in with us! I haven’t made time to search and destroy estate sales just yet so, my first questions would be how much are they asking and what type of rolls have you seen? I have been buying off the Bay and somewhat indiscriminately yet careful to mark sellers selling rerolled crap…
