Re: Acetone and American Gold eagles ?
no, they will not milkspot like ASE's. There's always the possibility of copper spotting with gold coins but rarely seen on modern gold because of higher purity. And I'm not sure an acetone dip will prevent them. Additionally copper spotting does not affect the gold content of these coins, they remain as pure as the mint… -
Re: Remove $5 Indian from PCGS holder?
Why would you want to crack it out? If that is the coin's number PCGS can do it for you. The gold that's underneath the milk spot is the coin, not the haze. PCGS should be able to help you out on it. It does however bring up a topic, for me at least: If there are milkspots on gold, what caused it? The plastic? :o Hmmmm.… -
Re: 1 ASE 20th ANNV set gong for big bucks on ebay
I'd wish I had kept mine sealed but I really wanted to see what the reverse proof looked like and I had no idea of the jump these things would take. It's nice having it open though as I can enjoy looking at the coins and inspecting for milkspots LOL (none yet btw). My only regret is I wish I could have ordered 10 of them! -
Spots and haze on gold eagles

First one is a $10 eagle and the second is a $5. Is this common or am I just lucky. I pretty much stopped buying silver eagles because of the milkspots, and now I get this. Both are 69's and they are selling for little more than melt so I would imagine that there is little that PCGS could do. Just a little frustrated. I… -
Re: 10 years ago, I bought this SAE and forgot about it
Looks like a number of them I have seen, that I would consider NT. The spot you think was a liquid on it, I have seen on some others and I think it is where some milkspotting would otherwise occur. It isn't a MONSTER toner, but I like the look as it has progressed over time and looks to still have some nice luster. -
Re: Theodore Roosevelt Coin and Chronicles Set - Some Preliminary Info
The post stated that the bald eagle medal was 1 1/2 inches, and said nothing about the diameter of the bronze presidential medals, which are as you say, 1 5/16 inches. And I'm sure they'll use the same blanks as the ASE's (unless they produce a thicker medal with the same 1 5/16 inch diameter). Hopefully they don't have… -
Re: 1964 ACCENT HAIR in PCGS PR69DCAM!!!??? My Unicorn coin!
Looking at the two (68DC and 69DC) on Coinfacts, IMHO, the 68 is a nicer coin. The 69 has what looks like tiny milkspots above the A on the reverse and something funky happening between Dollar and the rim. I'm surprised there are still any of these to be found. Wonder if a 70DC is out there anywhere?I keep waiting on… -
Re: PCGS Spot review, is two months too long?
Well, the answer to the question is yes. Two months is too long. I guess it's the norm though with the milkspot problem. Kinda sounds like PCGS is swamped. I had 1 for each year up to 2004. Some spotted, like they were laid out and someone brushed their teeth over them. Some spooted, like a white amoeba attack. Why doesn't… -
Re: 1996 ASE's
<< <i>Sounds sketchy.... >> Yeah, agreed. I'd need to see them first and in a public place like my bank lobby. I have several of them in PCGS slabs, nearly all MS 69 and one very lucky 70. Problem with a couple of the 69's and a few of the raw ones are that they are horribly milkspotted. If they were problem free and… -
Re: I got a MS70 silver eagle, Big mistake☹️Watch out for white spots on silver eagles before buying
@markelman1125....We have all made some errors in our purchases....This is not a terrible mistake, the price you paid may be well above actual value, but still well below disaster. I am sure you could reclaim some of your investment quickly on ebay or even the BST - bullion stackers really do not worry about milkspots.…
