Re: The boxing thread

Teofilo Stevenson, oh boy, where to begin with him. He was a heavyweight, he won three straight Olympic Gold medals for Cuba in the heavyweight division. He was a behemoth of a man, 6'5", just a monster. Getting in the ring with him must have been like challenging Goliath to a fight. Not only this, but he is one of the… -

Re: Buying MS67 FB Mercury Dimes from pictures - should one expect descriptions with coins from major au
If you went 9 out of 12 beans bidding sight-unseen at auction you beat the odds by a mile. I'm impressed. I would have have expected a much lower hit rate. You can't spot a hairline or two from a photo. The problem isn't with the auction house, but the TPG that graded the coin. I certainly don't expect the auction house to… -
Re: 25th Set DDO pics
...Maybe its just me but I can spot this a mile away. just by looking @ the top two pics. Magnification isn't even necessary if you are FAMILIAR with what that class doubling looks like, but I look @ coins all day long. Maybe I am just a coin nerd haha I am guessing the mintage is low, at lease wayyy much lower than the… -
Re: WOW! Platinum up $23.90 in 5 minutes!
""In order to properly appreciate platinum, you should get yourself a low premium 1 oz. Unc specimen from the years 1997-2003 that can be held in your hand"" Yes, I agree. There is no platinum like the "reverse proof" of those particular years. Now, as a pocket piece.....heck yes, feel the magic! I do have a PCGS slabbed… -

Dennis: You do not want it. As you can see its a Non FB Coin. Huh ?? Send in for Regrade ?? Naw I know what the coin is. Also how did you like My stance on this question. Am I getting converted to the White Camp ?? Nope, just the Original Camp as Carl suggested. Dipped White, you can spot them from Miles away.… -
grading surface gloss on topps tiffany cards
Hi there, I'm curious if anyone has had any direct experience with how the surface of Topps Tiffany cards is graded? Obviously any clear spotting on the gloss would be a demerit - but there are times where if I tilt the card under a light I can see just a hint of texture to the gloss - almost a few pinpoints of a sparkle,… -
Re: Great Britain: gilt copper proof halfpenny of George III, Soho Mint, 1806
Yes, this is NOT a modern fantasy issue. (One can usually spot those from a mile off, anyway.) I think they were presentation pieces of some kind, and I'm pretty sure they were issued with a little metal "shell" to hold the coin, which possibly accounts for the survival of so many nice pieces today (relative to their no… -
Re: Am I missing something?
The pop 14 statistic is meaningless IMO because all it tells you is that there are only 14 in holders in this grade, by this company, out of millions of BU specimens that no one has bothered to submit yet. Perry Hall's statement is quite apropos. These have nowhere to go but down as more people see this sale price and… -
Re: Shops in San Antonio?
downtown your only real choice is "Royalty Coins" (they sell on ebay under the same name, or a close facsimile thereof). They have tons of coins, way more than are on display in the small showroom. Ask to see something if you don't spot something you like on the floor. If you can get North of town a bit, stop by Lonestar…
