Re: If silver were to run up to $50 per troy ounce again ...
No one is able to get out near the top usually, the fall is precipitous. I still had a monster box or two regrettably after the last fall. On the last run up I had been at the Parsippany show and later spoke with a bullion dealer who had been there buying....I asked how he made out, did he take a big loss, as the price… -
Re: Classic Commems Collectors?
I still collect classics, although my set is almost finished. Right now you are catching a falling knife, and it is still falling. Logic says it should be closer to the bottom, but who knows? Look at the price range on eBay (yes I know it's far from perfect) for a particular type coin. I very much know that quality varies… -
Re: Aluminum state quarter with S mint Mark
The idiots were accepting cargo containers of waffled half dollar fakes. It's hard to believe anyone could fall for such a crude attempt at theft or that the clowns in China counterfeiting these didn't research American coinage sufficiently to know that half dollars don't circulate so wouldn't fall out of junked cars!!!… -
Re: Does the Bentley Collection Mystify You?
<< <i> << <i>Because in a declining market, the high-flying wonder coins will usually fall the most My knee jerk reaction is that this just isn't true ... can you back it up with a few examples? >> Not sure I agree with the premise, but I do recall someone taking a bath on the 1870-S half dime c. 1990. >> They will fall… -
Re: 1807 large stars half. Is it an O-112 or O-114
I still think it's a 114. Great discussion. I even think I can make out the lumps below the 7. Draw a straight edge across the 180 of the date - all three numbers are basically in line on the 114 while on the 112 the 8 falls below a bit. Or just take a straight line across the top of the 18 and see where it falls on the 0.… -
Re: Origins of the 1964 "SMS" Coins (Info Now Published in Nov. 2024 The Numismatist)
You are accurate, it is not absolute that seller, per se, constructed ten of those sets; nor did the description echo the lettering on the case. I’m not trying to turn the thread into a whine about an ad. I occupy myself with the use, misuse, and abuse of language in the eBay pages. This is another case where a topic in… -
Anybody ever had coins fall out of the Saflips?
I ask this question because I was storing some coins for an upcoming submission in pcgs saflips in a small plastic bag inside of one of those PCGS blue plastic boxes they return the coins in. They were in there for over a month. I opened up the box and two of the coins inside of the plastic bag had fallen out of their… -
Re: 1989 randy vs griffey jr
Yup. Already missed the run up on Griffey Upper Deck. It could fall just as hard...and has started to already. Hence why I would be worried. I would guess(pure guess not advice) that the Griffey Upper Deck PSA 10 settles in the $1,200 range two years from now. Still up from pre covid since the market is strong as a whole… -
Re: MLK "Dream" speech adpoted to coin collecting.
For those that don't remember the speech verbatim... Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a… -
