Re: Antiquity Bureau...
If it is an overall milkiness, I believe what you are referring to is called haze by most collectors. If it is in the form of small, whitish spots, these are referred to as milk spots. Both are considered detrimental to a coin's eye appeal and value. I have never done business with Antiquity Bureau, but what I have seen of… -

Newby - Silver Eagle grading?
I inherited a coin collection from my father that includes a lot of very nice, uncirculated Silver Eagles, most not slabbed. (The few that are slabbed are either ICG MS70 or NGC Gem Uncirculated.) Originally I wanted to send in some of these (unslabbed) coins for grading, probably by PCGS. After reading a number of posts… -

Re: First Strike question...
<< <i>The only way to address milk spotting is with a quick dip prior to submission but for the sealed sets, this is impossible and the coins spot just as well in the sealed shipping bax as the do out of it. >> This is true. If you sent the coins in for grading in a sealed box and you are planning on flipping the coins, it… -
Re: Toning over milkspots ?
It seems no one is experimenting with the milk spots... beyond attempts at dipping. I posted in another thread regarding the voluminous posts about milk spots but the lack of investigative efforts into identification and/or root cause of the problem. I would be glad to do some of this, however, none of my SAE's (four sets,… -

EDIT: Ooooooooo....that guy who was trying to do the "money laundering" thing with MS CashBack is no longer a registered user....bad bad bad news.... >> Yes. An MS70 coin with milk spots will most certainly down grade at any major… -
Re: Guess the Grade! 1941-S Washington Quarter

"numerous spots" , "biological attack over time" you referring to the toning? I've owned higher grade quarters that have had similar. Good indication its an original piece Ex. MS67 piece that stickered I've owned: The lighter milk spot sorta looking brownish hazes seem to be consistent with what I've found in original bank… -
Re: finally got the 1995w
Nearly 30 years I think if milk spots were on this coin they would emerged by now. Milk spots occur because soap residue was not fully washed from the planchette and when minted it becomes part of the coin. They can become more visible over time but they do not appear “spontaneously” and not necessarily on every coin.…
