For sale, a roll of 20 1923 BU Peace Dollars. I bought these a couple years ago from one of the big dealers - not sure who now. Free shipping via USPS Priority, I accept PayPal +3%, personal check (if you have forum references), or USPS MO. These rolls are currently about $750 on the bullion websites. Asking $695. The… -
NGC tough on ASE's

I was under the impression that NGC handed out 70's like candy. Bought 50 from the Slaughter House, narrowed it down to 10 gems. These things are flawless, WTF. So do I resubmit and play the fee game? Why don't TPG's come out and say it, the more you spend on fee's, the better the grades. I called NGC today and asked for… -
Georgia/Alabama this Saturday at 4, maybe an upset is brewing
Calling all Dawg and Bama fans... I called a business guy yesterday, he's a dyed-in-the-wool Dawgs fan and has season tix. His immediate comment was "where gonna kick their a$$ by 2 touchdowns". I seriously doubt this will happen. While the Dawgs are favored, the game means much, much more to Alabama, win and they have a… -
Re: Vintage grades on 58/59 Topps posted.............cards received, and upon further review...........
<< <i>Funny how everyone is now starting to agree with my comments from last month (which I got blasted for) noting that it is impossible to consitently and accurately discern such minute differences in card condition and that PSA's graders are no more accurate than the collectors on this board! >> Can't argue with you… -
Re: Pre-1933 Silver, what's the grade?
1825 half dollar: Looks like it may have been lightly cleaned at one point. It might still be "market acceptable" and could grade AU55. 1876-S half dollar: Heavily polished and then "milk spotted". This coin is definitely NOT "market acceptable" and would never receive a problem-free grade. 1917-D quarter: A little wear on… -
Re: Back To My Roots, and a Beginner's Guide To Identifying Accented Hair Halves
Nice thread, one that resonates with me. A number of years ago I stopped by one local shop and bought an OGP 1964 proof set for $24.00 that contained a frosted AH half dollar. I thought that was a great pickup. The very next day I stopped by another local shop and bought 6 OGP 1964 proof sets for $10.00 each ($60.00). All… -
Re: Unimpressive!
different coin, same question... UHR arrived yesterday and it had spots and a scratch and what appears to be die polishing marks {although these appear to be on most or all of them}... all 20 of my Lincoln Commem Proofs has smooth areas on the reverse where they should be frosty. one had a black spot with a scratch.… -
Re: What's going on with Proof Silver Eagles?
<< <i>This is because the ASE is a BULLION coin that was never meant to be collected. It is mint hype that thousands of "collectors" have bought into. As silver moves up and down, the prices of these "premium" ASE's move down accordingly....Collector interest is basically squat in these now. They are all slowly being… -
Re: How can a coin with finger prints be mint state?
<< <i>If the term "mint state" meant it was in perfect as minted condition with no blemishes and never touched then only MS70 would be an MS grade and we would be saying AU69. >> um, no a weak strike and milk spots and a number of other things can cause a coin - which is in "as minted condition... never touched" - to… -
Re: storage what do you think

I seal my slabbed coins in food saver bags. I use a large bag and can vaccum seal 20 slabs into a flat brick of coins, easy storage. I contacted Food Saver and a rep confirmed that the bags contain no PVC, so my guess it's good for coins too. Some of the bags have been sealed for close to a year, with no seal issues. I…
