Re: Is the One Ounce Gold Enhanced Uncirculated Coin on the mint website new?
I based my purchase on wanting the coin, and frankly falling for the written wording of what it was to look like. As you well know, we had zero worthwhile images of it prior to release, save one HSN presentation/sales pitch that NJ clued me in on. That did it for me. Having it in hand confirms it was all worthwhile! That’s… -
Profiles in Kennedy 1965 SMS
I have not observed any Kennedy threads lately and decided to post a few comments on a nice Kennedy half dollar. The photo attached (hopefully) is one that I won off Ebay some time ago in 2004 (I dont remember exactly), and is the seller's photgraph. This is the best looking 1965 SMS Kennedy I have seen. If anyone knows of… -
Question regarding the striking of coins, Primarily about the collar.
I have seen a few boardstruck IHC's that were struck out of collar. After thinking this through, my idea of how a coin was struck goes out the window. The way I invisioned it was: 1. The coin drops into the collar, that is in position over one of the dies, this keeps the planchet somewhat in place. 2. The other die smacks… -
Re: Survey: What are some coins/dates that you think are overpriced based on other coins around them?
Now, Now. If you were to see the huge presence that Taylor Swift has at the Country Music Hall of Fame you would be singing a different tune about Taylor Swift tickets being overpriced. Have you ever sniffed her perfume, Wonderstruck? Do that ( I cop a few whiffs of Wonderstruck out of the sample bottle in the cosmetics… -
Springfield So-Called Dollars - Pynchon House Revisited - HK-608 HK-609

I recently picked up a pair of Springfield 250th Anniversary So-Called Dollars, HK-608 and HK-609. I've been interested in anything depicting the Pynchon House ever since picking up Bolen's Pynchon House dies and learning he lived in Springfield. The HK-608 is raw with only 7 graded by NGC and none by PCGS. The HK-609 is… -
Re: Just pulled these images of the fake double struck 2018 cent on eBay
first guess fake coin - the die that struck the 2nd time was tilted while the coin was still sitting in the anvil die? or seriously doubt the 2nd strike is from false dies on an authentic 2018. the 2nd strike looks too dialed in to the first. (from the images, which leave a lot to be desired) i have seen 1-sided d/s which… -
Re: Buyer beware when dealing w/ Superior Galleries!
The Beepy saga.. A tale of coins, deception and the law. A harvard business case study in Customer Satisfaction A way for a lot of us to vent on something other than the chores around the house I am now ignoring. Conspiracy against Beepy. A brillianbt waste of time... SERIOUSLY - Whats the longest thread these boards have… -
Re: Redbook valuation of 1877 Indian Head Cent

<< <i>Where can I find the Redbook buyer? >> Look for cabbage trucks driving around, and watch for anyone falling off Seriously though, I don't have an answer to any of your questions.....I recall Mark Borchardt, now a big shot at Heritage, telling me in his father's B&M store back around 1986 "there are coins I would sell… -
Re: Copper History for the Weekend: The 1922 'no D' Lincoln Cent
<< <i>It is not a grease filled die error like the 89 no p. >> Wrong "1922 Die Pairs #1, #3 and #4 were the result of “mint grease”which is a combination of dirt, metal, and oil, filling the area of the mintmark. Mint grease would fill the mintmark gradually, resulting in different levels of “weakness”. It is believed that… -
Re: What percentage of proof coins from the 1970's are DCAM?
I didn't answer because I'm not qualified to provide a comprehensive answer. From 1965 on the number of frosted coins from the proof presses increased about every year. 1969 was an exception if memory serves. Big increases were in '67 and '71. In the early years and 1970 one sided cameos were more common. 1972 and 1973…
