Re: OT: dealing with Canadians and postal money order
Funny story...though probably a waste of your time so I'm sorry about that. The scammers are out in force lately. In the past two weeks I've been offered to share lottery winnings from Nigeria, commit bank fraud not once but twice in China by acting as a beneficiary on some poor deceased guys life insurance....and numerous… -
Re: 1795 off-center draped bust dollar "vampire" counterfeit
It's a relatively good quality fake. I recall when comparable DBSE $1 fakes started making an enhanced presence on ebay about 10+ yrs ago. Fortunately they used a 1795 off center as the host and didn't realize that was the only year of the off center bust. Many of the auctions were private which made it easier to pull the… -
Re: hi ho hi ho, a hunting we will go ebay fakies
<< <i>if the people buying the fakes worried as much as some of you do about what they are buying, fakes wouldn't be a problem. the "problem" is that people are too eager to bid and not eager enough to learn anything about what they are buying, this is why the fakes are still here. I have no sympathy for people too lazy to… -

Re: I'll never be able to figure out this Ebay seller.....
I think the basic "problem" here is a clash between the old and new. - The old-time market doesn't accept that one knowledgable opinion isn't acceptable. Resubmitting isn't required, because that's just an added expense in what should be a simple meeting of the minds. - The followers of new market say the 3rd party grade… -
Re: What's going to happen with the Presidential Dollar Series
Until the paper dollar goes away, NO DOLLAR coin has an Ice Cubes chance of ever circulating. Regardless of what its design is or even what its metallic composition might be. You see, the problem is NOT with the public since I've run into more than one person that didn't even know they existed. As such, they snatched them… -
Re: Any risk in taking a "cashiers check from a bank" from an Ebayer?
"I hate when somebody wants to send a check or money order because it's like the buyer is scamming PayPal out of being able to collect 3.9% fees on the transaction. You just want to block somebody like that." I guess I should have put a smiley in there for clarification. Actually most people would consider Paypal as the… -
Re: Which comes first; payment or shipping?
Generally if you're selling to a dealer through the mail, you're going to be expected to send the coin first. Obviously, it's best that you only deal with well known and established dealers. If they aren't either of those, then you can find someone else who is that will buy your coins. Thinking about it from a dealer's… -
Re: Wanting to get back in the hobby......
Welcome to the boards and back to the hobby. Great advice so far by all the above. Beware of ebay scammers with raw cards - the cards are typically overgraded by 1-2 grades (except for the fine members here). If you factor in the overgrading, you'll be ok. As for prewar, lots of fakes out there which helps drive people… -
Re: Wisconsin Quarter prices firming up?
dismissive attitude taken by an "error expert" in response to Rick Snow's posts about these struck a nerve with me. These experts have a stranglehold on this segment of the hobby, and actually believe they have the power to make or break something new in terms of acceptability and their opinon of value. The "sour grapes"…
