Re: What happens to varieties that have been "removed" (ATS) 1849/8 H10C.
The coin does not change. If the coin is resubmitted the erroneous variety should be removed and the submitter supplied with a written explanation. The question really is centered on authentication - with is the primary function of the major TPGs. Attributing a variety is a way of authenticating the coin as both genuine… -
Re: Why did the Aluminum cent fail?

PHILADELPHIA, October 21st, 1863. SIR: - I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of the Mint and its Branches, for the fiscal year, ending June 30th, 1863.
COPPER COINAGE.
The coinage and issue of the nickel cent during the year has been very large -- almost… -
Re: A valuable coin is missing.
There is a rule in law that states if someone states an untruth or a false claim you may then- at your discretion- deem all of their statements or claims as false. The OP states in his complaint of PCGS he had a submission of eight where "all were not labeled right" (ie: correctly) and all eight were incorrectly labeled as… -
Re: Why was there such a controversy about the Standing Liberty quarter design?
What is possible is to refute each of the alleged facts in some version of the “obscene” quarter story. As each “fact” is shown to be incorrect, the story looses credence until it simply falls into a useless jumble. The follow-on task is to build an accurate story based on verifiable facts – something solid that will stand… -

Spring PNNA Show report

Been quite a while since i have had a stress free, nearly slow down free drive from my home north of Seattle to Portland but the trip down Friday was easy. I left at 1130 thinking it would take me 6 hours and got to the venue in 4-1/2. Had to kill a couple hours before they would actually let us in to set up ( I… -
Re: What suggestion(s) do you have for your fellow collectors that might make their collecting more fun?
If you get burned, learn from the experience! It happens to everyone! Also do diligent research before you buy. Many coins are sold with signed inserts…and many being lured into the false sense that they are one of a kind…although the same signer may have signed only one insert of its kind, there may be 50-100-500 inserts… -
True or False: Baseball is the greatest game on the planet?
Having been to 4 Tiger playoff games in the past 8 days, I was once again struck by the crowd at baseball games. Maybe I'm over-generalizing, but it seems to me if you did a study on the crowds at basketball, football, or hockey games (especially playoffs), a large percentage of the crowds would fall into a certain… -
Re: How I bought the $100,000 1960-D Jefferson Nickel for $9,750 plus the juice

<< << << DMWJR, Heh. >> I love that story! >> Sure, it's an interesting story but it falls short to what the 1960-D turd was doing to the hobby, PCGS, those who take this series very seriously. If the turd C. Cook was presented with had the same dire effect to his fleet or his country, he may have just verily… -

Dollars, This is one of the 94 "Hall of Fame for Great Americans" Medals I have from the Medallic Arts Company that were produced between 1962 and 1976. Some say that these large .999 silver medals are only worth melt value, but I believe they are some if the most beautiful medals/coins ever produced. Here's the background…
