Re: You can't have it both ways
There is a significant difference between doctoring and conserving! Dipping a coin does less harm than many here would like to believe and to dip or not dip is a question of relevance. Dipping a crusty circulated coin is just plain stupid however popping a modern uncirculated coin in a preventative dip is not. I have no… -
Re: Free shot at an Accented Hair on eBay.

<< <i>Just what is the premium on a non-cam AH? >> It is very condition dependent. A high percentage - much higher than the regular - are doggie POS coins. Many are milk spotted, and many more that are spot-free suffer from obverse hairlining. Nice ones grading PR66 or better do bring a premium. For raw ones a true PR66… -

Re: Trying for a Plus with a green-holdered coin
It's worth a lot to me to know that a red copper coin in an old older isn't going to turn brown any time soon, that a white silver coin won't blacken or show spittle marks, dip/milk spots, or fingerprints, that a rare mintmark isn't going to fall off, or that a gold coin won't slough off a bunch of putty. -
Re: Rainbow Toners : Peace vs. Morgans... the 1921 Morgans

My understanding is that from 1921 on that silver planchets were washed with hydrochloric acid solution and that chloride residue remained/s after washing. This would be consistent with the fact that milk spots are silver chloride. Also from my limited investigation of same it was found that chlorine/chloride was the only… -

It came back from PCGS as a 64DCAM and I sent it back and it came back 65DCAM, did he get it to a 67DCAM?? >> coynclecter, It is indeed. He sent it off to NCS to have the milk spot removed, than resubmitted it to PCGS. Russ, NCNE -
Re: What is the Allure?
I have a friend who collects only coins with milk spots ... What is the allure? That’s the wrong question - the real question is why are you all so crazy? Because collecting coins is not rational - we are all a little nuts to spend this much time and money on coins - and they answer? We are all just a little crazy 😄 -
Re: Semi numismatic precious metal coins
Thanks for all the responses so far. @jmski52 as always I really appreciate your time and insights you shared. For now I am tackling the first spouses and modern gold commem’s (both in unc with OGP). Hoping to get the spouses knocked out by end of summer. The older modern gold commem’s have proven tough to find with the… -
