Jesse, a reply from Crown Point. (note he was confused with the mention of the Bar can’t early on). Ray,

Matthew O'Leary has kindly forwarded to me your query about Gilfoil coppers at Crown Point. The research that you have done is of great interest. Are you certain the coin you have with the broad arrow stamp is a 1785 Bar Cent? In your photos, I can't see any diagnostic pattern or date, and it certanly looks like it could be a Gilfoil copper.

I wish I could say that we have found a Gilfoil copper at Crown Point. We know the story of Gilfoil, and in all our excavations there we have carefully watched for such a coin but with little success. In excavations behind the Soldiers' Barracks, however, we recovered a token that was cut out of sheet of copper. It is somewhat irregular in shape and thickness. We have thought it might be one of Gilfoil's coins. It is mentioned on pages 186-187 of the large report on the excavations at the Soldiers Barracks, Archeological excavations at the Crown Point soldiers' barracks, 1976 and 1977 by Lois M. Feister (1998). The entire report is available on-line through the New State Library Web site, at https://nyst.sirsi.net/uhtbin/cgisirsi/?ps=FhmRMOvGNm/NYSL/X/2/1000.

I could try to photograph this token for you if you wish. I do not remember the two silver coin fragments marked with small broad arrow stamps at Crown Point, or the farthing with a parallel row of dents from the Soldiers' Barracks. The farthing is not mentoned in the Feister report. In fact, the excavations there in 1976 and 1977 apparenty did not reveal any coins, surprisingy.

We found fragments of barrel bands, but they are iron and were re-used as pot hooks.
