Daniel Carr's Moonlight Mint. He's also a very knowledgeable contributor to the forums. image

For the Rochester Numismatic Association, which is celebrating their 100th anniversary of founding this year, the club has contracted with North American Mint (Rochester, N.Y) since the 1950's to make the bronze, silver and gold 51 mm President's medal each year. They may in many cases be more expensive than most medal makers, but they are unrivaled in the quality of their product. North American Mint is widely known for having provided circulation coinage for multiple Third World countries.

  • For our club's 50th Anniversary we used the Northwest Territorial Mint in 2006. They did a good job making MerlinGold Alloy, Silver and 22 carat Gold medals 39mm in size. That is pretty much what I know about them.

One reason I like my club's use of Daniel Carr is that Daniel's medals are collectible while many coin club medals are not.

If you don't choose Dan, my recommendation would be to find another designer / engraver of renown, say a former US Mint designer / engraver like Tom Rogers or other recognized person like Ron Landis. One of my favorite modern coin auctioneer medals is a Stack's Bowers Olympics commemorative designed by Frank Gasparro.

This way, the medals are more than your average coin club medal in terms of collectibility and history.
