Can someone tell me anything about this fractional gold?

I haven't encountered these coins before, and wanted to see if anyone had a resource available, or could tell me a few facts about this coin.
The "G" is an initial for the minter, I think. Any help would be appreciated.

I know it's a rough picture but it's all I have for now. Seems to maybe have a die crack across the cheek, also. Not sure though.

Robert B. Gray was the minter.

thanks perry. i was trying to figure that part out!

Antoine Nouizillet sold his business to Robert B. Gray & Co. around 1859-60,
and the latter produced fractional coins with Nouizillet’s existing dies,
as well as his own (marked G).

Gray sold his interests to the California Jewelry Co. in 1871.

  • Cool! I thought I had read the names connected to the mintmarks somewhere, just couldn't remember.

I have been trying to get a clearer picture, but do you know how hard it is to photograph these little buggers??
Plus the slab has a few smudges, still working on it though.

    Thanks guys!!
