What I love about classic commen toning is...

you see something different all the time, like the BTW's that were issued in all different paper formats.

Here's my BTW Commem...unfortunately PCGS decided it was cleaned with AU details. I don't necessarily disagree with them, but love the color on it.

Nice color. Didn't scotch tape cause the pattern?

Is from Pinnacle's site, it does look like it was taped off (maybe intentionally?)

Yes the tape which held the coin in place in the cutout of a Seasons Greeting Card.

The void in toning is as that part was not exposed to holder.

I was just about to post a new thread with these pics asking if there was any official packaging that could have caused this square toning, and then the answer appeared here.

Can anyone post pictures or link to pictures of the cards that caused this.

The toning is not nearly as nice as the OP's. It is an AU-58 on the front and an MS-63 or better on the back. Looks like there are remnants of tape remaining, thought it was glue at first.

While not a commem, I have a Morgan with similar toning. I am assuming that there was a price sticker put directly on the coin and it remained there for some time.

I guess the price sticker stayed on so long because no one could see the coin! image

And the tab toning ones. The dot tab toned Oregons always crack me up.

Thanks for the link and info Broadstruck! I saw something similar in Anthony Swiatek's commem book but this card/tape matches up better.

The imaged coin from Pinnacle's site not only doesnt show signs of tape residue, the tape fit very symmetrically on the reverse design which is
kind of cool. And the reverse just happened to tone wonderfully around it.
