There is a thread somewhere on here regarding this person.

In summary of the thread, there were two people, one being myself, who had agreed to purchase cards from him. Cards were paid for, 2-3 weeks later, cards didnt arrive. There were shipping issues among other things that created the problem. Both of the buyers were refunded.

Not sure how the other deal eventually came out. Personally, I was still interested in the cards, but would not resend the money until I had the cards in hand since I had already done it and not received the cards. Was offered a chance to pay by credit card in advanced, but decided not to do it. Never heard another word.

Still am not sure about what actually happened and why the cards were never sent and why the seller wouldnt send the cards first since it was obvious I was willing to pay. Hope this helps

What was his forum name? Or didn't he post here?

Not sure...thought it was just "Greg Washington". I know he used the name "Greg's Card Shack" on his paypal address.

Edited to add: His CU id is "Gregwash"

    Hiya Ed

Are you aware of this thread from a while back?

    Based on what I read?

It appears they Greg is a standup guy - admitted he made some mistakes and wanted to make good.

Not sure why this took weeks to resolve tho? If the PO rejected the packages and returned to sender?

Why not do it right and get them out right away. I do feel like I'm not fully understanding the deal.

Also, I was just curious what kind of "value" transaction this was?

My situation sounds very very similar to these stories.... He would never send me a tracking # on his first shipping attempt after about 5 requests. He has re-shipped the cards and has provided a tracking # but those are not showing up under usps site. And just like others have said I don't want to call Greg out since no one has been 'wronged' here and hopefully things work out smoothly. Like these others I just want the card..... In this case an 86 rice psa 10. So we will see.... I hope to report back and sing gregs praises Ina couple of days!

I don't know why all sellers aren't using tracking numbers these days. It is so cheap to do so and just puts everyone's minds at ease. Not giving a tracking number ramps up anxiety and gets a buyers imagination running wild. Not the best way to do business in my opinion.

Agreed, just use PP for shipping and tracking is automatic. On a card that big I would ship Overnight, which automatically has tracking. Hope it works out for you Ed. Big time card.

I was the other party who tried to purchase a 2009 Heritage Jeter variation and a 2011 Heritage Guerrero error. I got the same story that he tried to save some money in the shipping, only to have the package return the very day I contacted PayPal to refund my money. The interesting thing, though, was that he stated that he was a former USPS employee and there would be no problems at all as he knew the people working there. The tracking number he provided didn't work and when I asked him for the number one more time, he offered to send me pictures of the package instead. I looked for a record for him on line and did not see a Greg Washington listed in the area he claimed as his home.

He stated in his response that he would do business with me and the other buyer. I responded that would be fine as long as I had a tangible address apart from his PayPal account where I could make contact if there were other issues. He never responded.

I see that he also deals in coins. I cannot comment on his character; in my case there were too many "red flags" and I chose (reluctantly) to terminate the deal. Hopefully others have had better luck in their dealings with Greg. It would be interesting to see if anyone in Indiana have dealt with him as shows as where he told me where he did most of his business and Internet sales were new to him.

Did your transaction start here or on eBay? Did you have any contact info other than email?
  • VintagemanEdVintagemanEd Posts: 932 ✭✭✭
Just to add on this..... Greg and I have emailed this evening and he has provided me his phone # and address to ease my mind as he has responded multiple times in the last 24 hours. So I have to say that this does not seem like any foul play is going on in that regard. Greg sent the tracking Saturday to me on this but neither the tracking or receipt number comes up in the USPS system. The receipt noted that delivery should have been made today but Steve did not receive it. So while Greg has been pretty up front on his emails and communication the facts are that he sent a package to bbce that was marked refused and he sent me a copy of it. Steve told me bbce has never refused a package for any reason. Second, he sent a package and provided the USPS receipt but the tracking #'s are not in the system and the delivery date of today did not happen. I don't believe Greg is trying to pull anything here based on his past refunds and admitting his shipping mistakes but I sure can't figure out what is going on!!!!!!

In my case, Greg responded to a posting on Collector's Universe for the SSP variations I needed. While I am glad he provided you with contact information and I hope you receive your items, he told me that he had once worked for USPS, so there shouldn't be any problems with the shiping as he already knows the process. The tracking numbers he left for you and for me were invalid, which shouldn't happen since one would expect him to know better. In my case he said that he mailed the cards after hours, the office was allegedly closed and blamed that on the package being returned as "he tried to save a few pennies" in shipping charges.

I chose to ask for the refund as I did not feel comfortable with the manner in which the transaction was transpiring. I don't know anything about the seller's business practices and I am not going to use this forum to pass judgement. I hated not getting the Jeter, hopefully I can get another soon.

This is not rocket science. A reputable seller ships a package with a tracking number that is verifiable on the USPS site. All this other stuff sounds like song and dance to me.

  • I'm glad you finally provided the people here with an almost fully accurate assessment of other key facts. I've monitored this thread from a distance and I believe it's time for me to add to it. Ed has left out that while the picture was a wee bit fuzzy it does clearly contain the serial that has been verified on PSAs website. He has not fully paid for the purchase but I agreed albeit with some hesitancy to ship to bbce. His concern was a tampered holder even though the number was verified to be a true 10 Rice rookie. The first attempt was refused and returned. While it is true I didn't get around to providing the tracking before the return due to a matter he's aware of that I choose not to make public he did receive a picture of the box which was postal stamped. After some hesitance I agreed to stick with the terms and re ship to bbce. My wife handled that for me again due to a matter I don't wish to disclose and he was provided with a picture of the physical postal receipt. We have been in contact via email which I admit has been heated somewhat for reasons that I won't share publicly. I don't feel those heated moments are needed here. I do applaud Ed for coming here and providing this thread with the key missing info especially after one of the heated email exchanges.

Greg, I am very glad you got on this thread!!! Believe me I want this to go through smoothly and for us to both be happy. I have done a lot of business with Steve over the years and have conversed with Jeff at card country etc and even though these guys may not really know me they could say it has been nice and cordial in our dealings. I am not trying to accuse you of doing anything shading but just like 1,000 out of 1,000 board members here would also do I have to wonder what in the world is going on! Simple as that....
I don't think my emails were heated but if they came across too strong I apologize. This feels like a journey that has lasted 10x longer than it really has

Stay tuned. In tomorrow's episode Muffy finds out that Jake has been secretly dating Sheila who is having an affair with Preston who wants to move out of his Mom's basement but can't afford it, so he asked all the guys from the band to come hang out, and of course, you wouldn't believe what happens next when they are introduced to his Mom and her habitual need to sit on the front porch and throw frozen cupcakes at passing automobiles.

Had to look this up - aren't we talking about a 10K card here?

Tracking number? A 10K card should be Registered Mail IMO.

edit: What's with all the bogus tracking numbers?

  • I have had several pm's on this over the last 2 weeks..... The saga continues with Greg. He told me he had to go through the process of putting the money back into his pay pal from his bank account. That took about 5 days..... Now because this is a larger amount than he or his wife ( I think he said it was her pay pal) normally deal with he says that pay pal has to do some sort of review before he can send. I of course said send me $200 or $300 at a time. I have never seen or heard anything like this. I want to believe he will do the right thing and he is communicating pretty well.... At least once a day on most days. I am just at a loss as to why or how this could be prolonged for so long. Greg joined in on this thread before.... Maybe he will update everyone
  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
Wait, why is Greg paying you? Did the card never arrive and you requested a refund?
  • Yes Dan...... Sorry I jumped ahead there..... The card never arrived. He sent me a tracking # that always came back No Record on USPS. My post office said it was never entered into the USPS system so it was apparently never shipped. He told me he would file the insurance or have the USPS start an investigation but would refund me. That was about 10 days ago.

    I agree with Tim.

My gut says he's "playing with your money."

He got money from you - had no intention of giving you a card - and when he has the dough refund your money.

I have no eBay experience with selling, yet when I collected thru paypal gifts over 5K for a member here?

I had no trouble sending him the money all at once.

I don't know him - this is just what I think.

edit: why not just ask him to send you a Cashier's check for the money from his bank account since he can't transfer it thru paypal?

Unless I'm missing something, what he is telling you is complete bs.
  • Well I bragged on Greg for staying in touch and now he has gone silent. I will be forced to start action soon
  • In all srsness, Ed, instead of providing us little bread crumbs in your mystery tale, why don't you handle this like a fully grown adult and deal with it with Greg. If he doesn't respond or keeps giving you the rope-a-dope, that is what PayPal protection or a credit card chargeback are for. There doesn't need to be drama here or at a minimum you can bottom line it for us when it's all wrapped up.

As you have probably figured out by now, this guy is a crook! He tried to scam me and has also fooled two of my cohorts on the coin forum. Forget about his medical treatment stories, that is so much BS. He told me he had a $8k raw coin to sell, that he had owned for 30+ years, and sent photos that were photoshopped from Heritage auctions of a slabbed coin sold 2 years ago. If you have any way to get your money back better start now! Two of the other coin guys did get a refund after threatening him.
    > Hope you can get a refund, Ed!
Please no one send this scammer any more money!!!!!

Indeed. Rotten cabbage could do more harm than the Zika virus and the Kardashian family. Combined.
  • This whole idea of taking pictures of the package as a substitute for a valid tracking number is ludicrous. It's all about the tracking for any peace of mind. You could just take pictures of the same box over and over again and swap labels if you want. "The check is in the mail" days are over.
