Cooperstown memorial day weekend

For all those who have been there previously, is there any other attractions in the area that are worth checking out? So far I've only noticed HOF and a couple of brewery tours.

The hall is always woth checking out. You get to see many HOF items and plaques, and some plaques of people who should not be in.

Out side of the joke that the hof has become, they do have some great items. I just with they would kick out all the Below Average and Average people.

I haven't been there in like 10 years, but there was a man who opened a Pete Rose/Mickey Mantle hof. One floor is Mick, and the other is Rose.
Some very cool stuff if it is still there. Check it out.

There's lots of great overpriced cards, fake autographs, and counterfeit cards in the local shops ....but whatever keeps the Japanese business men happy!

...still worth the trip IMO, it's a nice town, no other "major" attractions, you could always combine it with NYC or something though.

That place was pretty cool. It was inexpensive, you could do the whole thing in a 1/2 day. I haven't been up there since 2002.

I was going to suggest the Soccer Hall of Fame, located in Oneonta, NY. Found out that it closed in 2010 however.

There is the Glimmerglass Opera: Text as well as the National Farmer's Museum: [L=]http://www.farmersmuseum.org/[/L]

As well as a few microbreweries.

I grew up about an hour away from Cooperstown, attended Induction Weekend from 1987-98, and then again in 2007 and 2008. It is literally my favorite place on earth (hence, my username). I've never been to any of the above mentioned sites. I can spend literally hours and hours walking around the town, going into the shops, eating ice cream, pizza, walking around by the Lake and reliving my childhood. I could spend a couple of days alone in the HOF.

We went two years ago, our second trip in about five years.... and loved it. As said above, not really anything else to do... but the Hall is worth doing over a couple of days. And all the shops are fun to look in... there's some interesting stuff. My son bought some cards there, nothing crazy (as they are overpriced as you would imagine) but a street with six shops on it selling baseball cards is still worth checking out. :-)

Having lived in the area there are a couple of other attractions. The James Fenimore Cooper house (author of Drums Along the Mohawk et. al.), The Farmers Museum, tour boat rides on Glimmerglass Lake, golf @ Leatherstocking Country Club located at the historic Otesega Hotel, the National Soccer Hall of Fame in nearby Oneonta, the renowned Glimmerglass Opera if that appeals to you, and a fairly short drive to the Finger Lakes and all the winery tours. The village itself is quaint and there may be a game going on in Doubleday Field where they used to hold the Hall of Fame game. Hope you enjoy your trip as the Hall of Fame is certainly worth seeing for any fan. Enjoy, Doug
