New Horses

I saw this medal in silver, but I felt it was overpriced and it was harshly cleaned; made for an unattractive piece. Here is the bronze version:

Don't normally purchase boxed medals because I feel that I am paying a premium for a box, but I could not resist this special Huguenin piece:

Nice medals, what do they commemorate?

They commemorate nothing of significance. The top medal is typical of medals awarded at agricultural fairs. Horses are not unusual on such a medal, but usually not this prominently.
The lower medal simply appears to be an award for graduating a program in horsemanship. The horse bust is unusual and it can be traced to a time and place.

Usually medal collectors, and in some special occasions, coin collectors, will gladly pay a premium for these elusive original boxes! If there's ever a time to sell some of these, you might change your current point of view.
