Yet another modern coin gimmick

To each his/her own but come on... Seriously?

Edit- And I see now it isn't even made of silver.

    That is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOL !!!!!image

So this is the regular-sized quarter (not one of their large-size-yet-still-state-25-cents varieties), has no silver, and they can get $30 each for them?! I'm sorry, but the U.S. Mint could learn a LOT from these guys!!image

I'm only buying one if they embed a microchip that roars when you squeeze it. image

Omg, don't give them any more ideas! It would be like those music-playing greeting cards... Except on a coin.

I think this is terrific. To get YNs involved in collecting is the life blood of numismatics. Glow-in-the-dark and dynosaurs are really big with the kids and why not grab them in the early interests of life? Besides, in fifty years, these might really be worth something.

pmac - Putting my sarcasm aside, I have to agree with you. While the holograms, colors, odd shapes, etc might seem like gimmicks to me, they might just be the hook that brings a new young face into the hobby. To each their own......if you want to collect Somali guitar coins or glow in the dark dinosaur coins, all the more power to you. I think most of us were brought into the hobby through one interest and once we jump in the pool and swim around for awhile we realize the many other avenues that we can pursue. It was US Indian Head cents for me.

Personally, I think the idea is pretty cool. I'd prefer if they were the same size as the regular 25c, so they didn't seem so much like NCLT, but still, I like it. I wouldn't spend a bunch of $$$ on them, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
