Hammered French coin ID help

I just got this "newp" off the bay of E, and I think I just bought it on a whim, and on account of it being cheap. I can discern that one side says LUDOVICUS REX, but considering this could be anyone from Louis VI to Louis XII, I'm not sure where to start. The reverse is harder for me to decipher, but all I can recognize is a "-VS" at the very end of a word. It also has a design similar to coins I've seen of the era, but I'm really just lost. Someone with French coin knowledge, help a collector who's new to this area out! Also, any recommendations on books would be great!
