The reason why outing people on this forum or any other CU forum is not allowed is because too often it is not clear who is at fault. Outing someone smears their name even if they later can show that they were not at fault. I have seen it happen many times.
Here is what you can do: if someone rips you off on the BST, and you can prove it, then PM me and that person will be banned.
Rip off artists are not welcome! I don't care where they do it. But it's a lot tougher to prove it than to simply make the claim.
There are a lot of unreasonable people who claim to be ripped off just because they have second thoughts about a deal. Dealers have to put up with them all the time.

While I agree that openly dragging someone's name through the mud is not the best course of action (ESPECIALLY if it's due to a misunderstanding or faulty expectations), it's also good to know that the powers here will actually attempt to take some course of action if somebody misbehaves in a transaction.
I do not envy our sponsors the potentially difficult and/or sticky task of having to play beat cop on this forum, but I'm grateful to them for providing it, and hopefully it won't be so hard to deal with. In my personal experience of over ten years here, it's been all good.

Banning only works if the person wants to stay here.
You would still have the ability to ask about if anyone has any other information that could help you. It's not like you wouldn't ever be able to bring up that persons name again...at least that's the way I understand it.
perhaps some clarification from DW would help.

After re-reading DW's post, I guess you wouldn't be able to bring up the name of the person who scammed you, because that in itself is currently not allowed as I interpret it. So as a buyer on the BST, that would concern me as I would have no avenue to reach out to other members here for information.
As a seller on the BST, I would like to know if it is ok to pm DW when a buyer commits to a deal...and I can prove that the buyer did thru our private messages, then the buyer backs out for a bs reason, or just doesn't get back to you at all?
What recourse does the seller then have? The seller counted on receiving the funds from the sale, but now the seller has not only lost the money of a sale that was agreed upon, they have lost time as well.
Does that warrant a buyer being banned? If done enough times, I would say yes. But that's why I'm asking...I'm not a mod here.

I suppose you run that risk in many venues, though- I think of my days when the Numismatic News classified ads were my sight-unseen shopping grounds. I look at these forums the same way (except with the beneficial addition of photos and familiar names).
If I'd been scammed by a NumiNews advertiser, what could they have done about it? Ban that advertiser once they got a certain number of complaints? That's probably the extent of it. (I wonder if they'd have accepted ads where somebody said "so-and-so is a thief and ripped me off"...)

Asking again for clarification on this due to getting a few offers via private messages of people saying the magic words, "ill take it" and then not following thru. Should this be reported to you as well Don, or do only buyers get the opportunity to say they lost money, time and a sale that was agreed to? Thanks
