1896 Canada Far 6 large cent

Does anyone have one of these with a good picture? Also does anyone know of the values for this variety in various grades? Here is one on ebay supposedly , But I do not think that this is the far 6 variety. Thanks, Bob

  • You are correct. That is not the far 6 variety. In the far 6 variety the middle of the 6 will line up with the left hand arm of the "t" in cent.
According to Canadian Trends the far 6 variety runs about 5-6 times the value of the regular 1896.

    Good eye.

    hello,

the coin posted is NOT the far 6. for sure.
However, there are several varieties of the 1896.

    there is a a far 6 with a very high 6
there us a far 6 with a sightly high 6
    there is a near 6 with a high 6
the image below is the near six with a doubled 1

and, as always, there may be others...

The last digit was manually punched into each 1896 reverse die, causing a unique placement on each die. As posted by YQQ, there are multiple 1896 dies that can be considered to have a "Far 6." Here is one of them.
