I would agree that they are a little less common than some years, but there seem to be a decent number of 1976 Topps BB cellos available out there today. Here are some links to those that are currently available on Ebay:
If you want to talk about rare cellos from the 1970s, try finding 1970, 1971 or 1972 Topps BB cellos (the boxed ones, not the fake "grocery" ones). You don't see these very often.
1976 cello thread brought back some memories.. I was in a huge store in upstate ny at the end of the baseball season... the store had like 600 packs of cellos left... as a 16 year ols kid at the time, i went over to manager and asked if he would lower the 10 cent price he had marked down on them to 5 cents each if i bought them all.. done deal......my set cost me like 7.00 to make.... miss them old days.. thanks for letting me share that memory...ivan
Tougher than the more popular (and plentiful) 75s, but not rare in the true meaning of the word.

That is awesome. Any star power on the fronts? Must be tempting to hunt for a PSA 9 Brett in there.
The PSA 9 Winfield pack I just copped on the bay is now my lone '76 pack. No '74's either. Hopefully a Schmidt or Ryan will surface in a PSA slab soon.

Grote I think you had a 74 Schmidt pack; that is one of my favorite cards. If anyone gets a good lead on a '74 star cello in a PSA slab gimme a heads up.
I agree Matty, the 1976 cellos are much harder to find when compared to the 1975 or 1977 and later cellos. I only have a partial 1976 cello box with 14 cellos in it that I've been able to buy over the years. I actually also have a PSA 9 Ryan but it can't part with it as it is beautifully centered.

Mike, I have a 77 Ryan rack also, but I'll take yours on consignment as well!
I am missing a 76 cello with Eck on top.

To answer your question, I would say a 73 cello with Schmidt on top...the ones I've seen so far are suspect at best.

That's a great story by the way.
<< <i>I've just never seen a solid box or even a great star pack for sale since I've gotten into unopened. Actually just one star pack recently.
