Fastest Sub Ever! At least I didn't have to wait for the Pain!! Contest Winner!!

Afternoon,

Out of Hundreds of subs this is the first time I've ever had a second day Grades Pop. What a waste! I am so underwhelmed right now that I just have no comment!

Whoever called the Murray...Wish you hadn't been right!

Jeff: I don't know that I'd bother subbing the ones you have if this is how its going to turn out!!

I will sit down and figure out who won after I get over the shock here!! 4 N6's and an N8 out of 35 subbed, has to be one of the worst ratios of Unopened I've done and subbed ever. All cards Except the Murray looked exactly same size except for a little normal variance in the Fuzzy!!

Order #20545314 / Submission #717559
Line # Item # Cert # Grade Description Type Country

No surprises here, these are from the two packs I bought from the Box break here from Probstein, actually these cards were worse looking to me than the grades they recieved!

Man, bummer! Kind of irks me that the N6's are on HOFers. That's not right! The ratio really makes you question the subjectiveness of grading. Seems to me they are being overly harsh on the stars.

My thoughts exactly, plus the usual Head Scratchers as well, The Lou Brock that many had guessed as a 10 was to me head and shoulders the best Card of the Lot, I mean absolutely PERFECT. Just because I am so Frickin' pissed (And this plays into PSA's hands perfectly) I will be cracking it out just for principal and I bet it ends up in a 10 holder eventually....Remember these words down the road when I post it here as a 10!!!!!!!

Tough break on the Murray. Does it measure up? Well, you did get a fair number of 9s and a couple of 10s, including a 9 on the Ryan RB so there are some bright spots...still..I feel your pain. Sometimesa quicker turnaround yields a tougher result.

General question about PSA - do you think that they review what was previously submitted by someone to see if there is history of submitting a particular card from a particular set? Granted, there's no way that they could prove it is the same card being resubmitted, but I wonder if they might make an unfair assumption.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
Wow, harsh! Here is a silver lining... at least they didn't call them EOT, and you'll be getting your sub fees refunded.

Honestly, I'm not surprised that so many are MSRQ'd, because I noticed (by complete chance) that one of my Reggie RBs was seriously undersized. I want to thank you for posting your results, because now I'm going to take some serious time triple-checking the size of the cards I'm subbing. It's great to see you land so many 9s and some 10s.

I'm a huge fan of PSA (obviously), but I don't care what they say, they definitely take the name on the card into consideration when grading it.

Wow, I got more right than I thought! By my calculations, four of us are tied for the lead with 8 correct (me, bubblebathgirl, jimrad, Indy78). I say the tiebreaker should go in favor of bubblebathgirl, because he actually guessed the Murray wouldn't get slabbed (he called it EOT).

These were my guesses (listed first) along with the real grades:

    Winfield 6 - 7
    Parker 8 - 8
    Brock 9 - 9

    Blyleven 8 - 9
    Murray 7 - N6
    Ryan 10-or-more strikeouts 8 - 9
    Ryan 8.5 - 8.5 image
    Schmidt 9 - 8
    Neikro/Ryan upper left 9 - 9
    Neikro/Ryan upper right 8 - 8
    Neikro/Ryan lower left 8 - 8
    Foster/Rice 9 - 9
    Foster/Rice 9 - 9

Neil, have your bankers call 4SC's lawyers. Then have your lawyers call their bankers and arrange a resub through 4SC.

That puppy then comes back a PSA 9 at least.

The VCP average total on your 1978 OPCs is $306. I'm bored tonight, can't you tell? image
  • Evening,

Jeff, thanks for doing the work for me, saved me a lot of time, so we have a 4 way tie for the lead. I'm not going to just give it to Bubblebath because EOT is totally different than MinSize to me. So here is the tie breaker. I have 3 more cards from the box break sitting ready to go into a sub down the line, one of them is a dup of the 34 1978's I just sent. First one of you 4 to guess which one, wins, name of Player.

In this thread, one guess at a time!

Yeah and even if I got that, would barely cover Sub fees, better think about that!

So what do 10 commons VCP for?

My guess is you'll sub another "#207 EXPOS TEAM" card, only because you landed a 6 on that one, and I pulled about eight of these cards! lol

Of the commons that I pulled for my future sub, I made sure I only pulled the ones that would be potential Pop 1's, for that very reason.

With 10s, you never know. Sold at the right timing, they could have high results.
  • Evening,

No card had already been set aside due to Stellar condition and has no bearing on same card grade pulled with this sub! But nice try!

Percentage wise I was the winner. Hit the Murray with 100% accuracy, and it was the only card I guessed on. Wish I hadn't called it. Situations like this is why I've pretty much given up on the rips. Better to just take the $$ I would have spent and buy something already graded.

my opinion is that anytime you are submitting to get 10's , you will be disappointed. Doesn;t matter how good the cards are , you aren't going to get a run of 15 out of 30 cards being 10's on vintage stuff, period.

So I went through and remeasured the 1978 OPC cards that I had set aside to sub... and I pulled out (8) of the (44) cards!! They were all at least 1/16" thinner L/R. Wow... so thanks for saving me at least $40!! image

If PSA 10's are selling for a robust $15 a pop then there are probably only a few cards in this set that would ever be worth subbing.

That's true, I didn't think of it that way. Still, these cards are pretty obviously short, so I'll fill my "50 special" with eight other cards. Still subbing the borderline star cards.

<< <i>If PSA 10's are selling for a robust $15 a pop then there are probably only a few cards in this set that would ever be worth subbing. >>

I'm only subbing the low or no pop commons in the first place. I'm being more conservative with these cards than I have ever been in the past. There are only about 10 commons in there, out of 36.

Neil, how are the backs of some of your 9s and 10s? Some of these cards that are centered have some really bad 80/20 backs. Just wondering how PSA treated the backs on these.
  • Morning,

All of the backs should be at least 70/30 from my memory, since I was shooting for 10's on all but some of the Star cards, I pulled everything out that had worse back centering than that. Back centering didn't seem to be a big issue with my Box, as well as I think I had only one Blatant Miscut card in the whole box.
