Potential lost PSA package questions-**Package Received**

Have a few questions relating to a potential lost package coming back to me from PSA. Here goes:

The tracking numbers state that it was sent USPS Priority with only signature confirmation (no insurance??). I paid what seems like $50 for return shipping and I only get signature confirmation with no insurance?

If this does turn out to be lost (how long constitutes lost with PSA?), what is my recourse with PSA, would it be my declared values, if even that? Do they self insure in cases like this?

I'm probably jumping the gun here, but this would be (3) items this year that have gone missing into thin air via USPS, so I'm a bit jumpy, of course. I know they're having financial difficulties (USPS), but has the regard for package care totally gone out the window recently with them, too?

I really appreciate your responses, thanks.

Mark

Every PSA package is insured, it just doesn't say so in the tracking number. When was it actually shipped?

Often, signature confirmation (using the blue label) is also insured. If it's the pink label, I'm not sure.

Insurance is provided by PSA, as indicated on the sub forms. Whether it is self-insured or not, I don't know. I would suggest you watch the tracking number on the USPS site, and call PSA if it either (a) shows as delivered when it's not, or (b) takes more than a week in transit.

When was it shipped? I usually get my cards/packs back within 2-3 business days of shipping date as priority mail is much quicker than the registered mail they always used to use. If you selected registered mail, then it will take 10-14 days on average.

  • PSA gets insurance outside of the USPS. How many days are we talking?

    Hey guys,
Thanks for the responses so far. The expected delivery date was Friday, 10/14 (I know, jumping the gun, but...). Anyway, it left a sorting facility on 10/14, this facility is about a Roberto Clemente throw from my main P.O. It got from Anaheim all the way to the East Coast in 1-2 days and nothing in 4 days a few miles from my house. BTW, I selected USPS Priority, which, as mentioned, is typically very fast. Thanks.

The thing about Priority is it's normally very fast (2-3) days, or it gets hung up and takes over two weeks. Of course, 95% of the time it's fine, but I have had a couple of things show up weeks later.

Agree with Jarrod...it seems that priority packages either arrive lightning fast or take a while...if it left a sort facility on 10/14, you probably should have received it on Monday. Did mail come today yet?

Yeah, nothing yet. The one package that I had go missing earlier this year was Priority I think, as well. That one got 'lost' in Philly, this one is Lehigh Valley, PA. Just found out from my local P.O. that this particular sorting facility is becoming known recently for misdirected/'lost' mail (great!).

In the worst case event, how long is it before PSA considers an item missing? I know, much longer than 5-7 days, but I'm curious, thanks.

I'd give it a week after the expected delivery date...I have had a couple of packages take 2-3 days after leaving the local sorting facility to arrive at my local PO. The sort facility is not the last leg in its transit, so it may show up by tomorrow.

I recently sent a Pancho Herrera variation to get graded with PSA.

PSA sent the package back and the Post Office lost in from there processing center in my State and it never made it to me.

The post office says that it was probably stolen, or went poof.....

I WISH I CALLED PSA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE -- SINCE THEY USE A PRIVATE INSURANCE BROKER -- THEY HAVE TO ASK USPS TO DO A MAIL TRACE ON THE PACKAGE BEFORE YOU GET ANY MONEY.

This whole process takes 2 weeks approx.....So, if you have any doubts call PSA immediately so they can start a trace. Once that was completed they check was shipped out 2 days later and it was easy ......

Just frustrating to lose a card....

  • Afternoon,

Just had a package with $1800 worth of cards to the Limbo dance for 9 days. Took two days to get from NJ to Denver, Co. then I am 167 miles from Denver, showed checked in there (Denver Sort Facility) for 9 days, out for delivery, status never changed, then on 10th day local Post Office calls, I have to come down and sign for. Called Local and Denver Post Office's, absolutely no help..."It will be delivered, the usual company line". Screwy things going on at USPS the last couple of months. This is third High Dollar package do the Limbo dance in that time period.

Thank you guys for everything so far. Tomorrow will be a week since the package was mailed, so I'll reach out to PSA tomorrow to start the mail trace proceedings if I don't get anything by then. I went about 6-7 years without a missing package, this would make three this year if it doesn't make it, unbelievable!

I'm assuming they just cut a check in the amount of the declared value then? (Can't replace the cards, though, which sucks!)

WHY do these threads always get started while I have a large sub at PSA???? Don't I have enough to worry about with clicking the status button every 10 minutes???

  • I would definitely call USPS and let them know the situation. Ask them to initiate a search for the package. They should give you a case #. I have had to do this for several packages I shipped for ebay items, and they have always found the package within a week. Sometimes for whatever reason the package gets sent to the wrong facility, ect.

I've had more problems in the last 6 weeks with the PO and PSA shipments than I've had in the last 6 years. Packages from PSA that I would receive overnight are taking 3-4 days. seems they arrive at my local processing center then are processed out and then back in over a 2 day period. not sure where they go, but they do eventually get to me. this has happened on my last 3 subs over a two week period....not sure why. then about 6 weeks ago, one went from Anaheim to Alany NY and back to Newport. took 8 days! and I live 20 minutes from PSA!

Thanks again everyone for your help...the package was received today. Looks a little worse for the wear, but it's here. FYI, I found out from PSA when I called that a trace can't be placed by them until 14 business days after the initial shipment.

Since PSA stopped using registered mail, I expected this to happen. By switching from registered mail to priority mail, PSA is saving tons of money----at our expense. Did they pass on the savings to us---NO! And in the process, they have made shipping riskier. It would be nice to give us an option to use registered mail. I had a long discussion with someone at PSA and they said that option would never happen.
