1991 Wild Card Collegiate Edition 4 Box Break Favre!

Just got back from my LCS and picked up 10 boxes of junk wax from the early nineties for $100. The lot included 4 boxes of 1991 Wild Card Collegiate Edition. I just got through breaking 27 packs and have already pulled 10 Brett Favre Rookie cards. Is that normal? Yes, I'm hoping for that 1000 stripe.

Sadly you will never find it. You had to send in 1000 Favre RC's to Wild Card back when they were in business to get the 1k stripe.
  • I'd be happy with a 5-10-20-50-100 Stripe also. I pulled another Favre so I got 11 from this box. Not to shabby for $10! Thanks for the info

I thought it was the other way around. That if you uncovered the 1000 Stripe card you could trade it for 1000 Base Cards. I could be mistaken though.
  • It's advertised on the box that the stripes are random inserts of 5-10-20-50-100-1000. You can then mail them in and redeem them for that number of singles or smaller stripe denominations. I have no idea if it's the other way around but I wouldn't see why you couldn't upgrade. It would just cost you an arm and a leg back then to pull 1000 Favre Rookie cards.

You generally only get a half dozen of any denomination stripes per box so the odds of one of them being Favre are long. 1000 stripes were about one per case so that's not even a thought. The collation was awful so it's not uncommon to get several of the same card in a box.

And yes, you could trade in singles to get stripes and stripes to get singles.
  • Since my original post, I've broken two more boxes which only had a total of 3 Favre RC's in them. I'm 11 packs into my 4th and final box and have already pulled 8. I'm still hopeful to get a striped Favre, this may be my best chance!
  • what were the other six boxes?

  • Two more packs and two more Favre's, unfortunately I hit a 50 stripe of a lineman.
    The other six boxes were two 1991 Pro Set Series 2, a 1990 Pro Set Series 2, a 1991 Pro Set 1 and a 1992 Hoops 1.

  • The final tally for box 4 was 20 Brett Favre Rookie cards. Almost every pack had the same sequence. I also pulled another 50 stripe of a receiver. So in a total of 4 boxes I pulled 34 Brett Favre's. A few have print defects and a few with surface issues with the cards sticking. I do have 13 in rigids that I'll be subbing.
  • great boxes! lots of memories for me when i think of those

I pulled an Al Davis, Whitney Houston, Bill Bellicheat and a few of my PC favorites of Derrick Thomas, Bo Jackson and Christian Okoye.
In my Hoops box I pulled the USA Olympic Team card and a Jordan. Yes, great memories!
  • Good thing to know I had it reversed the whole time!
  • Wild Card was like a confused young woman, they went both ways. I received an information card that stated you can trade up or trade down.

Nice rip! The sequence is rediculous on those. I ripped 4 boxes a couple years back and didn't get one Favre. I remember I pulled something like 47 cards of one card out of 4 boxes. I would say you did pretty well. Hopefully you can score a few PSA 10's out of all of those Favre's.
  • just wondering what does a PSA 10 go for??? I'm to lazy to do an ebay search!

If you pulled any 1991 Wild Card Draft stripe cards of #42-Kevin Donnally--please let me know. Thanks, and congrats on the pulls.
