LordM...I hate to break this to you, but, alas, as we age sometimes our near vision fades (I myownself had to don my bifocals to sew up a flag for my son today). Perhaps you should 'look' into this...

I don't have bifocals yet, but I might as well, I guess. I wear my readers way down low on my nose, so I can look over the top of 'em like my grandfather did. When Grandaddy looked over the top of those half-moon specs he used to wear (he was a doctor), all children in the vicinity were supposed to cease their silly antics and be quiet.
