    I just bought a bunch of mid grade vintage SGC I plan to crack and sub to PSA, will post results. From my experience on modern they are equal, SGC being more loosey goosey on centering to BGS though.

    Depends on what cards you are talking about.

    Pre war..................SGC

    50's 60's topps PSA.
    Good for you.

    Cards look much nicer in the SGC slabs.
  • I've cracked a few SGC slabs. PSA graded each of them 1-2 grades higher.

    I cracked a BVG 8 and PSA gave it an 8.

    The issues I subbed were, not the common issues (Topps). I think the type of card is what caused SGC to give each one a lower grade. But who knows.

  • sgc = pre ww2
    psa = post ww2 up until 2000
    bgs = post 2000
    I am working on the Nolan Ryan master set. Need 1004 more cards to complete. I might actually spend more on plastic than I did on cardboard.

    They are equal in my estimation.SGC may have stronger grading standards and I like the fact that they do not use qualifiers although if requested neither will PSA.I go with PSA only because of their top shelf reputation in the hobby.They are excellent in promting their produvt than their competitors.

    Grading wise, I have no complaints. I don't trust them anymore due to a bad experience I had with them. Going forward I plan to use BGS and PSA only.

  • tough call. Both have holders that can easily be tampered with

    SGC can suck my D
  • Both are top notch.

    Both companies over and under grade things. You can't go wrong with either one. Beckett is the only other grader to trust. All 3 (SGC, PSA and BVG) are consistant.

    Just avoid GAI.

    Both companies are good... Nuff said

  • A lot depends on what you are planning to do with the cards.

    If keeping them in your collection- any of the big 3 are fine- PSA, SGC and BVG, pick who you like based on slab/registry/etc.

    If you are grading to sell then I would follow the-

    sgc = pre ww2
    psa = post ww2 up until 2000
    bgs = post 2000

    For my personal collection, I use SGC and PSA, I am happy with both but I lean toward SGC if its a toss up.

    If looking to sell PSA if wanting for your collection to look at, SGC.

    I agree with the comment about GAI. They will slab anything you send them, regardless of
    its authenticity.

    If SGC could just get motivated and tweek a couple things I think they could give
    a good run at the top spot.. But they won't because they are content being number
    two and refuse to change anything..

    I've cracked lots of SGCs and submitted them to PSA. I'm nearly always satisfied (and have been pleasantly surprised a few times too).

    PSA tastes great!
  • SGC and PSA are now probably about equal so far as grading is concerned. ESPECIALLY lately. The "older" flips housed much stronger cards. The new grading system has led to cards being overgraded, almost to the point of being laughable . IMO.
