eBay,,,,,, OMG!!!!!!

Now they are going to require a 14 day return option
From an eBay e-mail I just received:
Take Action
•Starting in August, consider using the new “Money back or exchange” refund method option, when you have the depth of inventory to support an exchange for a different size, color, or undamaged unit. For sellers who have limited inventory in an item, but want to offer great customer service, select the “Money back” option.
•To attract more buyers during the holiday season, start replacing your 3- and 7-day return policy with a 14-day or better policy now.
•Make sure the return policy options you specify and anything you say in your return policy details are consistent. Update any return policy information on your About Me and eBay Store pages as well.
Let's see,,,, I'll buy a bunch of bulluion, if it goes down in the next 2 weeks I'll just send it back to the seller.
If a person can't deceide within 3 days if an item is what they want to keep,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Haven't seen anywhere that bullion is exempt from this new policy but it doesn't matter. Why would anyone need 14 days to deceide if you want to return something?
I dislike eBay more and more with every passing day.

It seems like a recipe for getting hosed anyway.

Attract even more buyers—offer a meaningful return policy
Today's online shoppers expect to have a reasonable timeframe for returns and the option of getting money back—that's why you can now offer "Money back or exchange" as a returns option. In 2012, the 3- and 7-day return options will be retired and a money-back option will be required whenever returns are accepted. As always, sellers may specify "no returns accepted". Give yourself a competitive edge for the holidays—start offering longer return timeframes and money-back options now. Learn more.
Take action: Our records indicate that one or more of your listings now specifies a 3- or 7-day return window, or does not offer buyers a money-back option. Make sure to update these listings as soon as possible—next year the 3- and 7-day options will be retired and a money-back option will be required. Updating them now before the holidays can help your sales!

What I dislike about this is the inconvience to the seller. If you are a big seller with money coming into your account all the time I guess it wouldn't be as big of a deal.
But for an occasional seller this is my gripe.
You sell an item. It takes a week to get there,,,,, now eBay gives the buyer an additional 2 weeks to deceide if he can find it at a better price and return it,,,,, so you have to wait 3 weeks before you can use the money in your PayPal account.
I sell occasionally on eBay and have only had a handful of returns,,,, maybe 8 or 10 coins in 12 years but eBay just keeps sticking it to the seller and it seems like they just want to encourage fraud on the part of the buyer.
Least you wonder I have a feedback score of:
4195 100% POSITIVE
DSR's of:
5.0 - Item as described 179
5.0 - Communication 179
5.0 - Shipping time 179
4.9 - Shipping and handling charges 186
So I am not winning because I am a bad seller, I just feel eBay keeps opening the door wider and wider for the seller to get hosed by a less than honest buyer,,,,,, and then when you add that they control PayPal and can take your money anytime they feel like it it just

Bullion, coins ,,,,, old shoes,,,,,, the same difference. Now you have to wait even longer to use your money.

Nowhere does it say that you must offer a 14-day policy.
Am I reading this wrong?
1) No returns accepted, or
2) A 14-day money back policy
You do not have to take returns, but if you do, the only duration available would be 14 days.

Note whenever returns are accepted. Just don't accept returns for bullion.

Yes, that will be the only option now, and it will scare away any potential buyers that might be afraid of fakes. It just looks like you're trying to pull something when you say "No returns". But maybe, if that's what we're all forced to do it won't look so bad.
What will make things difficult, though, is that Ebay wants consistency from sellers regarding Returns. I can see now that when I sell anything that is remotely tied to bullion value (modern mint precious metal issues come to mind), I will be forced to specify "No returns"; however if I sell something whose value is chiefly numismatic, I will continue to offer returns. That isn't consistent. I may have to come up with a convoluted, detailed Return Policy based on the type of item being sold. I don't think this is what Ebay intended with their recent change...

<< <i>I'm planning to offer "No Returns" officially, with a note in my listing that I accept returns for 7 days. >>
Please don't take this personally, but that is just the type of inconsistency that I think Ebay is trying to eliminate with their changes. They just don't think things through. A little vetting beforehand with the seller community might have prevented it.
BTW - I'm sure I'll do something similar to what you're planning. The net result is that there are going to be a whole slew of return policies floating around once this settles in.

From the selling standpoint, I agree.
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
Maybe I am not reading this the way so of you are but I read it as after the 1st of the year 14 day return with money back will be required. As I understand to list "No returns" will no longer be allowed.
Am I misunderstanding this somehow but this is my take on it

While I still read this to mean no returns is an option for now after the 1st of the year 3 & 7 day returns go away and become 14 day returns and you must offer a money back option.
Do you guys read this differently?
