The difference is that Mantle hit his 536 at a time when only 3 others had hit more (Ruth, Mays and Aaron) and he played for the Yankees. Thomas has been one of the few recent 500 HR Club additions not to be named in any PED discussions...

....so whats the point???
you can easily compare even many nonHOFers to his stats and have have them win, ie Manny R has 3X+ more 100+ RBI seasons than MM, Kent has 2X more 100+ RBI seasons. etc., The slowest player in the history of the game Bengi Molina averaged more doubles per season that lazy old Mantle who failed to take the extra base.... (dont give me " he was injured" sob story, he can play center field he can run out a shot down the line or a gapper IMO)
Frank Thomas#2 (the original Frank Thomas played in the 50s-60s
edited to add: I am talking about the Frank Thomas who played for the White Sox...and he will be a first ballot HOFer three years from now.
