Is this Aaron rookie a fake?

These cards are a fake right? I emailed the seller and he claimed the cards are original. He is also selling
a Namath rookie that is getting a lot of interest.

I can't tell the photo is poor...

    Who knows?
    Good for you.
  • I think a giveaway might be a bleeding of the coloring in the top right of the card. I've seen some
reprints on ebay that have the same type of problem.

Stay away, it's sure looks like it.
  • loads of fakes have surfaced in the last few years...
    I'd stay away

The color tint looks absolutely fake.

Search the Aaron reprints on ebay and you will see that the shading looks similar to the one you posted here.

  • Yes, but look at the massive amount of coin that he is generating for his Namath card.

    Namath card

The Namath actually looks like it might be real. But since he is selling what appears to be a fake Aaron rookie, I would probably stay clear of all cards. Unless you are willing to pay via credit card and go in with the realization that the card you receive just might be a fake.
  • Man the Aaron is up to $202.00 Somebody is going to lose a lot of money when they
submit that to PSA. The Namath is at $285.00

The creases in his Bobby Hull rookie look like it's a glossy modern reprint

    the back is strange too

I'd be suspicious for no other reason than the centering appears 50/50 and there is no tilt. Finding a centered 54 Aaron with 0 tilt is fairly difficult. Its a red flag to add to your list.....

I was thinking the same thing Neil. I have an HOF card, rated SGC 8.5, that is currently at $3.50 (VCP=$200) ending Tuesday. These buyers would rather spend big money on a fake and a legitimate high grade card is currently selling for peanuts....
  • mcadamsmcadams Posts: 2,618 ✭✭✭
Despite the poor scan, it is evident that this card is well centered and has NO tilt. For those whose are familiar with the 54 set or just the Aaron...people pay up big time if both of those characteristics are met. The fake simply held too much promise for them to turn away..

Looking at the bidding history it appears the auction may have been shilled as well.
    Good for you.

One other point, the person that 'won' the Namath also 'won' the Aaron.

The 52 Mantle is maybe only a matter of time.

The shill bidder will leave glowing, positive feedback, and fishes will see that and figure the cards in the new auction are legit...just like a bass thinks a Rapala fish lure is legit.

IMO, just another "alt ebay account" from a criminal.

Who will most likely NOT be arrested or get prosecuted for his crimes.

One would think it is about time that ebay takes the legal responsibility and pursue these crooks with local, state & federal law enforcement, States' Attorneys and Postal Inspectors.

Yet how many years on these threads have we exposed these scam artists, and yet they continue to flourish on ebay?

    It sucks!

    rd

edit: P.S. Where are the experts (like PSA) who have made millions on ebay seeing their "slabbed material" sell by the thousands each and every week? Who, I'm sure also read these threads and it seems, they simply take a "blinds eye" to these fraudulent auctions, who's victims are the collector base, which many for sure, do collect graded material.

That is exactly why it is better to buy from known dealers and hobbyists.

Or to seek out references before you throw your money at these nitwits that can barely spell
    or take a decent photo.

Trying to get cards on the cheap will often get you bitten.
