To Crack or to Crossover is the question? RESULTS ARE IN WITH SCAN

I'm thinking about cracking out this 1933 Arky Vaughan SGC 80 (6) and sending it to PSA for my Pirate registry set or should I just leave it in for the crossover? I'm looking for advice on this one. I've been pretty successful in the past with cracking and submitting SGC to PSA, but those were nickel and dime cards.

Hi Bob, good to see you on the boards. I have been in and out of the country lately and am now just catching up. I think PSA would give it an O/C, but if you need it for your set and you're okay with it (should it get an O/C) then I say it's worth it. Good luck!!

Nice card. Centering shouldn't keep it out of a 6 holder IMO.

Bob...you need to read my thread about my 1933 Goudey Sport Kings Walter Hagen that was an SGC 3. The card sits unholdered after PSA, and then SGC the 2nd go round has deemed the card trimmed.

In all honesty, that top right corner looks awfully sharp. Hard to tell with the scanned image however. Based upon my experince and losing out on $200 with the Hagen, I would be leery.....

I'm leaning towards sending it in under the crossover review, but part of me wants to crack it. I do have a free voucher I can use on this card.

Sad part about that is you might not like the way the movie ends!! It could also make the ticket VERY expensive!

It may cost a little more but you could send it in for crossover and if you don't like the results then make the decision on cracking out. Myself I would not crack it out but I am evidently not very good at deciding which cards to crack.

If one was worried about damaging a card while busting it out, there is no shortage of worthless cards in slabs to practice on if one were compelled to do so. The psychological aspect of giving the higher grade to the raw card over the competitor-slabbed card is always going to be a factor and PSA clearly doesn't want to be seen as the TPG with loose enough standards to encourage crossovers.

I've cracked and I've sent in crossovers and the results always seem to amaze me. Some work out better and some not so much. In the end I think it is somewhat of a crap shoot.

I decided to send the Arky Vaughan into PSA under the crossover review. I wanted this card in a PSA holder so I did put on my submission form the minimal grade I would accept would be a 5. When this popped the other day I was very pleased. I'll post scan when the card arrives.
