ALERT DFW TEXAS area

My house was broken into last Thursday morning and among the other things taken was the safe (yes the entire 250lb safe) that unfortunately had several of the copper sets that I am currently working on.

Don't know if the thieves will even have a clue as to what they have if they manage to get into the safe w/o destroying the coins, but if you live in the area, please keep an eye out for the following:

Bailiwick of Jersey - complete date set pre-decimal Coppers - 1/13 shillings, 1/26 shillings, 1/12 shillings, 1/24 shillings
Bailiwick of Guernsey - mostly complete date set of pre-decimal coppers - 1 Double, 2 Doubles, 4 Doubles and 8 Doubles
British 1/2 Pence date set from 1937-1970 (circulation strikes only)
Various and sundry asian/european coppers

All of the above are raw and housed in 2x2 holders in plastic sheets in notebooks.

American Toned Proof Jefferson Nickels, various dates housed in a Complete Jefferson Nickels capital plastics holder

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Best of luck in recovering your coins, and I hope they catch those guys soon.

At least no one was there, that's what I'd try to get some comfort from.

we are very happy no one was home - figure they were scouting the neighborhood and saw my wife leave. he was only gone for 40 to 45 minutes and she came home to the front door wide open and part of the frame on the floor - backed out and called the police.

They do the same crummy thing here in NC. I was working at a house in town, went in the back yard for ten minutes, and came back around to an empty truck. Never did catch the guys.

I'm sure you already know this, but give the police a good detailed inventory in case something shows up in the system.

OMG!! A 250-lb SAFE?!image Hopefully, it was on an upper or basement level, and you can catch the crooks by checking all local hospital/doctor records for felons admitted complaining of bad backs!!image

I can only repeat what the others have said, that it was good nobody was home/injured.

That's one of the sorry by-products of coin collecting these days... as much as one wants to share their hobby with others, there are always folks lurking out there waiting to pounce on that info & rob/steal at your expense..... that's why so many people use P.O. boxes & safe deposit boxes (and safes...image ) instead of openly displaying their collections or even keeping them at home..... it's a real shame....

In the meantime, I have a handful of extra circulated 1937-1970 British 1/2-pence you are welcome to, to help ease your loss.
