Canadian Dollars - How Do you Figure Out Values?

I hated looking at the Heritage archives which did not help a lot, and the online catalogs were all over the place. What would fair retail for the following be? (the PCGS holders are the old Green ones):

1939 PCGS SP66 Matte One Dollar - this looks to be the regular and non-matte notwithstanding the label
1947 PCGS65 Maple Leaf "with autumnal toning" quite a superior piece. I could not make out any doubling to "HP"
1948 uncert. One Dollar looks 62/63 PL and Brilliant, would be higher xpt v. light cheek contact
1949 PCGS SP65 Slightly dark original toning

Interestingly the '48 was BB'd for cleaning 5 or 6 years ago, and I have looked at it, and see NO hairlines or residue but as the coin is brilliant likely had been dipped. Clean but not cleaned IMO under bright light, 5x and 10x.

Thanks for the assist. I think some of the "values all over the place" statement may have been reflected in trying to find a value.

I remember thinking at the time, and by recall, it was a Bowers and Merena Auction when the principal was still there that prices were a bit low and saw the maple go for 2500 USD or so, so they haven't stood still. When I looked up Heritage it seemed there were quite a few 63 & 64 graded pieces but quantities fell off after that in higher grades.

The look is what matters most because grading these can be problematic-

Not to put a 'downer' on the prices, but the Canadian Trends values especially in ms65 is for ICCS graded coins NOT PCGS coins.

There is a huge documented price difference between PCGS and ICCS for high grade Canadian coins.

Something very similar to ms67 PCGS vs. NGC graded coins.

I think the "maple" would stack up nicely to ICCS standards, at least the few I have seen, complete in its OGH holder. The others, well, as you say need to be seen but they certainly are not shabby.

I will see if I can venture out and post pictures this week if people are still interested...

Pictures are always helpful and a nice piece will definitely stir the blood and get the discussion moving further. Thanks again for "everything." Best Regards, George

If you were planning to sell to the Canadian market, why not try to cross to ICCS with a minimum grade (assuming ICCS has minimum grade options)?
