Pre-War Card Question and Opinions

I have an opportunity to purchase a large lot of pre-war baseball cards. While not in pristine condition, I am still interested. I took a few scans of some of the cards and wanted to get the OUTSTANDING opinions of my fellow board members on these. First, what do you think these would grade if submitted to PSA? Second, what do you think these would sell for in their current RAW condition (i.e. what would someone like yourself pay for these?).

I appreciate all the input and opinion on these
Thanks in advance!
Tom

All PSA 1, maybe a 2 on the last Young, or AUT...............i would guess they can be boght for between 2,300-3k for all cards. IMO ...... The Wagner could fetch a little more??.... this puts my top around $3000

I would proceed with caution. Although those are solid cards from some collectible sets, those creases are not going to help you on resale. You can get PSA 1 and PSA 2 from those sets that don't have creases anywhere near the size that your cards demonstrate. Worse yet, the creases on all the cards, with the exception of the last Young, frequently cuts across the middle of the card and sometimes across the face. I would NOT have these graded because I don't see PSA set builders paying for them. I would only buy these if you absolutely want these specific cards for yourself, but don't have a lot of cash. Some of these will be tough to sell at any price....

Good advice from mcadams... while I disagree that these would be difficult to sell at "any" price, I think you'd find that potential buyers will want to feel like they really got a good deal in buying these. Such as, for example, let's say in a given grade one of these cards typically would sell at 300, figure on someone wanting it for no more than 175-200. That said, figure out what average not condition conscious, but very price-conscious buyer might pay for each, then figure your deal from there. I'd be very conservative in the amount you choose to pay out for these. On the plus side; none seem altered/trimmed/etc. at a glance. For me (and not for all buyers) that is a factor which makes a card unsalable for my collection, no matter the price.
  • Buy them
If they grade PSA 1 or above you can sell them anywhere anytime.
I buy them in low grades all the time.

    Great cards

These cards are not hard to sell "at any price." They're popular cards that they will be demand for. However, like the others have said, the condition is not appealing, so you won't be able to get top dollar, but you're looking at PSA1 for all of the cards and PSA2 for the E93 Young

Also should chime in, I see no good reason NOT to get these graded by PSA. Each, though low grade, is a high-demand, still-expensive card that will be a much more comfortable purchase for a prospective buyer if in a PSA slab. A no brainer really.
  • The opinions you expressed on this thread are exactly why I love this board!!
    Thanks
