1967 Canadian 800 or 500. Is "ring test" only reasonable way to tell?

The only real pieces of advice that I have heard are as follows:

1) You always have to buy it as 0.500 to cover your butt

2) You compare the "ping" to known 0.800, as opposed to know United States 40% such as a 1966 Kennedy Half Dollar.

Anything other advice would be appreciated.

I don't believe that there is enough of a difference in the sound of the ringing to be able to tell the difference. As far as I know the only way to reliably tell the difference is to melt them down, in which case, it doesn't really matter anyway. Definitely buy them as 50%.
