Obverse description ' Shows two conjoined circles containing busts of Richard I and Queen Victoria. A vignette of seven interlaced circles above. St. George and Dragon below. Legend in Gothic letters reads 'TO COMMEMORATE THE 700th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAYORALTY OF THE CITY OF LONDON MDCCCLXXXIX

Reverse description ' Shows St. Michael standing handing City scepter to seated allegorical figure. View of St.Paul's and other buildings behind with sun rays over.

On the whole the City of London series of medals are some of the nicest medals produced.

Boz, your medals are fantastic! If I wasn't too much of a chicken to venture out of my area of interest - i'd definitely dabble in some Russian Imperial medals myself.

Beautiful medal! That's a very nice design. I can't quite make out what is circling around the portraits though, and it has me curious.

It is says Richard I. 1189 , Victoria 1889. under the portraits, and ornate folded leaves adorn the perimeter of the portraits.

Thanks, I don't know why buy I kept seeing them as fish swimming around the perimeter, or maybe puppies.

That just didn't sound right to me.

Without my glasses they looked like snails.

Twokopeike , You can still get this rarity and beauty for a couple hundred in these medals but the prices are a rising. Where else can you do that.
