Graded Card Storage

in PSA Set Registry Forum
I am putting together a couple of sets. (1970 in 8 or better and 1980 in 10's) I was wondering how you guys store your graded cards. Do you put them in sleeves? What about boxes? I have no idea how I want to go about it.

Any help appreciated.

    I use the BCW boxes with sleeves on the cards to avoid scratching. I have some heavy duty shelves I use.

    These are AMAZING and the most affordable option around, imo.

    i dont use the graded bags, but many do. unfortunately Ultra Pro is no longer making them

    I use team-set bags. They're readily available, and they cover the viewing window portion of the PSA slab so you don't have to worry about scratches. Leave the sticker tape on the bag though, unless you want the bag to stick to the slab.

    I second the idea of those cardboard boxes AND the sleeves.

    BTW, if you'll PM either WeekendHacker or me, we both have listed extra 1970's on here recently. He has a ton of nice ones left.

    Yes there is a divider. They are nearly the same as a 2 row box for raw cards. Just a little taller and a little more sturdy.

    I wish I could find them around, but I never have seen them expect for the dealer that I linked the site.

    I saw him last Sunday in Chicago and bought the last few boxes he had. Seems like whenever I get to him he only has a couple boxes left.

    He told me he makes them and that is why I have never seen anybody else with them. I think he charges $4 for them.

    They get a little heavy, but not too bad.

    This is how I store my 55 Topps set...210 cards. Your set may be much bigger, but if you have the space and time, this is truly the only way to enjoy and "store" your cards. For those who have a basement that is climate controlled, and have the blessing of the better half...go for it!!!

    Thanks for all the advice guys. I will probably go with the cardboard for now, and upgrade to the suitcase when they start costing as much as a small car.

    Heh, that Pelican case shown here looks like the exact same model that I bought to ship LCD projectors for work. Good and sturdy.

    What do they look like? Basically just like the vault boxes with 4 rows? Do they hold around 300 slabbed cards?

    The cases are the cat's meow..I have 2 myself. Matt is a card collector and a very respected member here on these boards.
    I have and many many others have made card deals also with him...so feel comfortable with someone yo don't know.

    I like the fact that they are portable.

    Thanks for the reply. I am going to wait for now, as i would rather spend the money accumulating enough cards to make the case worth having. Kind of like when my wife spends so much on a purse there is no money left to put in it.

    Thanks for all nice comments on the display case I built for my 55 Topps set. I share it NOT to brag, only to show that cards, IMO, should be displayed if you can do so and how truly enjoyable your set(s) can be when done like this.

    I have very basic carpentry skills, so I assure you, this is not a difficult project to complete. Just kinda noodle out the math, get the materials and go for it. The key is to measure the cards...in my situation all mine were horizontal format, obviously many sets have verticals as well, just adjust, draw it out and the end result will be very pleasing to the eye.

    You will only need a table saw to do this and perhaps a weekend. If anyone wants more detail, just PM me, I'd be glad to help.

    If you have a "man cave" an addition like this will be the highlight of your room.

    The dakota case is nice. I can tell there is craftsmanship and quality. For me the plexiglass interior kinda spoils the wood motif.
    Having a T206 theme with the cover pic is cooll but I question on the product apealing to the general public. This thread and board
    are composed of mostly graded card card collectors. If you can afford to build a T206 set then you cab afford any case you desire.
    As someone who dables in similar projects the price seems fair for what it looks like (and walnut is not cheap)

    One reason I have a few of Matt's cases is it is so strong and cards are completely lined with a hi quality foam. Waterproof.
    Reasonaly short term fireproof. My best cards are in one. In the event of fire I can literaly throw this case from a 2nd story window
    and all cards and case would survive unhurt.

    The 55 display is great. The horizontal format really helps as no blank spaces are present. I worry a little about UV color degradtion over time.
    Does PSA cases have this protection?

    I worry a little about UV color degradtion over time.

    I took that into consideration too, my case sits on a north facing wall, no sunlight touches the cards...EVER.

    BTW, there is about a half inch of spacing between the cards on each row, this to allow me to pull out a card easily by sliding them apart and keeps the other 14 from falling down.

    He can do different size cases - I'm getting 2 cases that hold 300 slabs each....

    He's definitely an enabler.

    FYI and not to sound like a prude...but if you walk into the room and the light is off...and it's not pitch black...then sunlight is
    touching them.

    I believe they do make uv protection plexiglass. many display cases are made of them. Just an idea.

    I would hate to see such an impressive collection even be slightly affeted bu sunlight.

    I'm sure its a big investment as well.

    Guys, I can't get it done. I played around with reconfiguring the layout, and still can't get it done. The larger case will hold eaxactly 334 cards in the new layout.

    UV is a non-issue here. All my windows have been tinted as well as the front storm door. The tinting eliminates 99.9% of UV and it qualified for a 40% tax credit to boot.

    We have an enormous paladian window that faces West, the heat coming through that thing was brutal in July and August. Hopefully the tinting will reduce the heat situation substantially.

    Guys, I think I have you covered. My foam supplier sent me drawing tonight that would hold 385 cards. He says it will be tight, so let's say 375 is definately doable without cramming to many cards into each row. The layout of the case looks great, so I have no concerns there. It would be five rows versus the 4 rows which is pictured above. I have a couple questions for him tomorrow, before I officially say we are good to go, but it looks very positive. Based on a $225-$250 price point, can you please give me an idea how many you would want. Thanks
