Amazing Shipping - Newp Geo. III 6d's

These showed up from last weeks DNW auction today on the Fedex truck, I guess I better check how much they charged for shipping. One of the things I love about the George III coins is the variety that can be found. Even though he ascended the throne in 1760 he issued essentially no silver coins until the 6d and Shilling issues of 1787. It was also the time of Boulton and Watt with their steam powered presses at the Soho Mint. Boulton employeed Jean-Pierre Droz, a Swiss engraver, who made a great many patterns for the Soho Mint to show off their capabilities and attempt to win work for the British government. They were of course quite sucessfull going on to mint the copper pieces of 1797, 1799 and 1806-1807 and many of the Conder Tokens for various businesses among their other products. Also part of this era were the counterstamped 8R pieces on various South & Central American coins, the 1804 BoE Dollar, and 18 Pence and 3 Shilling BoE tokens all of which were issued in quatity. Other trial pieces include oddities such as the 9 pence trial pieces occassionally found, and patterns in copper of many of the silver pieces.
First is the 1788 (no date) Obverse die trial by Droz, milled edge and the obverse of ESC 1642.

And the 1817 proof 6d, fairly scarce as a proof.

They probably had to ship them via FedEx because of insurance limitations on Postal Mail, at least that is the often the case when you are shipping from the US. I don't know what the British limits are.
Two fantastic coins, by the way!

It really adds to the pleasure when you're a good researcher as well as a collector;
just broadens your interest and I imagine very satisfying when you locate some of the trial
pieces etc. you've researched.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.
