Sabres Legend Rick Martin Dies at 59

Sabres Legend Rick Martin dies at 59 in car accident after suffering a heart attack. Martin should be a Hall of Famer. He scored 375 Goals in his first 8 Seasons and had 3 injury filled seasons that he hardly played. He along with Gilbert Perreault, and René Robert formed The French Connection Line for the Buffalo Sabres in the 1970's.

    Absolutely I got him on my 1974 Topps about a year ago. I can't believe Rick Martin is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame. 59 is way too young to die.

    Wow. I just put in for a Rick Martin player set a couple months ago. A huge tragedy. He was an amazing player and this is a terrible disappointment.

    The "French Connection" - man that was so 1970's ... he should still be around. He was a formidable foe - and respected.

    I just remembered some of Martin's great hockey cards ... the classic stick in the camera from 1973-74 (Topps in yellow boarder; O-Pee-Chee in green) and the odd 1974-75 pairing - his regular card has "Rick" while his All-Star has "Richard" .... he is listed as Richard on only 2 topps/OPC cards.

    Man, love those cards.

    Yep. Agreed. That stick to the camera is one of my favorite photos on any card. You can just tell he has a good sense of humour and is also one cool dude.
