Sorting through stuff at banks.........

Anybody have any tips of experience Cherry picking through rolls and such at banks. Most of what I get is mint rolls at face. Instead of paying the mint for it. My wife works at a bank and I tell her that if any little old ladies bring in a bag of change to snag it so I can go through it.

Anybody?

The only "experience" i've had was when my wife, who was doing the banking for her company, was able to get me $100.00 face of WLH's for $100. Even though they were well worn and common dates I still sold them for about $500. That was about four years ago.

Try small-town banks and drain them of rolls of half-dollars. You never know, somewhere in the dusty recesses of the vault there might be some silver.

i ordered 1000.00 in halves and found 43 40% silver halves. none of the other coins looked like anything gradeable, nothing over an au grade. a lot of work rolling them to return to the bank for 6 ounces of silver.

About every 3 or 4 months I order $1000 worth of Halves through my bank. They get them from Brinks. My bank doesn't charge me anything for the service as I have heard some banks do. I usually find a decent amount of silver mostly 40% but last time I found some Franklins. I also find some doubled dies and RPMs that I collect. There really isn't much profit involved, but it does supply with hours of what I consider fun. BOB

on the state quarter to me is a wonderful and fun coin to cherry pick. five diffent coins a year you can get bu Rolls for face watch for the best grade coins, die cracks, double strikes and any other error. who know you could luck out and find one of the big money mules. little old ladies with bags of change Oh goodness who knows what you'll find. but I would look for rare dates. you can find them in you redbook.

Having been a banker for 31 years, I can tell you rarely have I discovered any coin of real value. But, on the other hand I amazed at the number of gold and silver certificates that show up every few months. Granted they aren't usually in the grreatest of shape, but I have even found some older star notes.

small town banks are the way to go. Halves and nickels have been my sucess.
Found many buffalos .war nickels and some proofs impaired
halves hundreds of forty pecents and about 300 1964 and a few franklins and walkers.
most banks just recycle the coins they get from people turning them in but in small banks as people turn in rolls they just sit there
until some one ask for them. How often do you really see halves circulate?
I do not know where they all go as the mint prints millions each year and you rarely see one in the cash drawer
