expert on mexico tokens

I have an obscure hacienda token...says something like "Y N C ANZO" on the face of it. Does anyone know who a contact expert on these tokens might be? I am trying to find out if this piece is a known token or a maverick

I'm no expert, but if you provide an image I can try looking it up.

  • will see if i can dig it out for a pic. actuallly it's easy to describe: hammered copper token, thick-ish like an ancient bronze. About the diameter of a u.s penny. A two line inscription on the face of it: "Y N C (or MAYBE "G") in small block letters on the top line. Then in beaded square border below that is "ANZO" in block letters and below that, an asterik kind of star. The back is blank.

How do you know that it's a Mexican hacienda token? Or Mexican at all?

  • well, it has all the stylings of a hacienda token, though I can't say sure if it's connected to mexico, peru. guatemala, etc. I have this wild fantasy however.. that the letters are "Y N C" stand for "And Nuevo California"...meaning the whole inscription would stand for "ANZO (as in California explorer de Anza) AND NUEVO CALIFORNIA"

    It's fun to dream.

Unless of course this is a known type that is connected to some rancho of Mexico.
