Who's got the slickest worn-out Victoria penny or halfpenny? Step right up and see if yours has what it takes to beat mine!
The rules:
1. Must be a Queen Victoria penny or halfpenny, as I mentioned. Surely there are some folks out there with other Slick Vickies.
(Edit- nah, too restrictive. Let's make it ANY Victoria coin.)
2. Must have a readable date. Well, discernable, if not entirely readable.
3. That's it, I guess. I was gonna put something in there about how it would have to be something that PCGS would grade (in other words, no problems- just wear), but since I might not get anybody else to play, this can also be an ugly Vicky contest if it comes to that.
All due respect to our TPG hosts, but I'll never understand why lowball collectors would wanna waste money slabbing their coins. Lowball collecting, yeah- sure, I can understand that- you know how I got my forum title. But slabbed lowballs? That I don't get. But to each his own- in the end I guess it is all just in good fun. I do think the coin above would grade, and go PO01- that sought-after grade for all lowballers.
ANYWAY, let's see if your Slick Vick can outdo my 1865 penny, above. I rubbed it between thumb and forefinger as though it were Aladdin's lamp, and I've gotta say, it is smooooooth, baby! Y'know the saying "as smooth as glass"? Well, this sucker is smoother than glass. I ran my finger across a mirror to check. And a marble-topped counter. It's smoother than both of those surfaces.
G'wan- I challenge you to see who is the slickest.
The winner will get bragging rights AND my slippery slider above, plus any others I should happen to find lying around. (That's if you want 'em.) Hey, a lowball collection of these might be fun. For all I know, somebody is already doing that? The cool thing about the exergue on the reverse of these is that it protects the date, which is one of the last things to go. (Unlike US Buffalo nickels and SLQs, which had the opposite problem).
(Edited only to add an exclamation point in the title. Simply because... umm... because... it's past my bedtime, that's why. When I stay up all night I often concoct goofy crap like this, as you've probably noticed.)

Anyway, will then, here is my worn Morgan Dollar.... Probably an 1895 (LOL)...
Got a few ugly ones, but they aren't near as slick as these. The one that is dateless is an 187? under the light and at the proper angle you make out the top of the first 3 digits.
I'd say those are real contenders, otherwise. Smoooooth, baby!
PS- as a matter o' fact, if you could see the date on that bottom one, I would think I'd have to admit defeat. It looks even slicker than mine. But maybe the portrait on mine stands out just a bit more because of the color of the coin.
PPS- no fair making up the date, either. "Oh, yes, this is ... uh... 1873."
Probably went to the same place as my last Dansco that disappeared when I was in Japan in 07.

WB2's entry has made me realize that it's too narrow a focus to just do halfpennies and pennies. Let's open it up to any and ALL Slick Vickies everywhere. There are bound to be a bunch of them. Come to think of it, I've seen some pretty smooth Canadian large cents, but nothing like some of these pennies and halfpennies. I forgot all about the silver. I had a William IV threepence that was like this, but it was also holey, so it wouldn't count if we're talking about problem free coins with just wear. Besides, smoothies from other rulers or countries can't properly be called Slick Vickies, now, can they?
Anyway, it came up in an old hotspot of mine (Jeff, we may have even visited that park when you visited here and we went out digging that day). I dug Mercury dimes, Indian cents, Liberty nickels, and all sorts of goodies out of an area roughly a half acre in size, plus one of my favorite token finds
I need to get me another detector. Our house was built in 48 and has had several owners over the years. I imagine there is silver somewhere to be found. Especially in the garden where my wifes granddaddy had his garden for many years.
I have a slicker somewhere, it might be Canadian, but it would be one of the Georges or perhaps Edward, though.
I have to find time to look....

Actually, its been bothering me, I know I have one that's WORSE than those, but I can't find it at the moment...
And I'm also trying to check my half pennies..... I know I have some slicks there too....
I'll accept the Title though and search for worse if I'm challenged....
Seriously though, I'll put some that I have in a whitman folder (it won't be complete though) and send it you to pass on in a giveaway for a young numismatist... You can send send yours and a few others that I'll send you as a second prize..
I don't know how to do a random giveaway and really am too busy to learn how right now and would appreciate your help in this....... PM me for personal info...

Um, yes we've been married 16 years and you had to ask????? OF COURSE I WANT TO SEE THEM. The Vicky might be right up this thread's alley, but I won't see it for another week or two at best.
